I think both teams to score is a really solid bet in this one. Neither team will sit back in a game of this magnitude, and they’ll both be creating chances from the off. Spain haven’t conceded many – only one, in fact – throughout the tournament. However, coming up against an Argentina side featuring Lionel Messi, Julián Álvarez et al, I think they’ll concede in this one. Argentina have scored and conceded in five of their seven games at the World Cup, bagging 19 goals and conceding seven. Spain have scored 13 goals in their seven matches. I think both teams to score is a dead cert here.
Lionel Messi over 1.5 shots on target (13/10)
He’s the joint top scorer and the second top assister at the tournament. One of the best to ever do it, if not the best – Lionel Messi has brought his magic to the biggest stage once again. With eight goals and four assists in seven games, he’s bound to win player of the tournament, and one more goal would see him win the golden boot outright. He has had a total of 34 shots, with 16 on target, an average of more than two shots on target per game. As I said, both sides will have chances here, and I think Messi will have at least two shots on target.
ALTERNATIVE BET – Lionel Messi to score @ 17/10
Taking Messi to score at 17/10 increases the odds of this bet builder slightly to 13/1 with Bet MGM. It’s almost written in the stars for him to score in the final and win the golden boot outright, and I think there’s a great chance of him doing so.
Lamine Yamal over 1.5 shots on target (2/1)
2/1 is fantastic odds for Yamal to join Messi with two or more shots on target. I think Spain will have the majority of the ball, and create the most chances, so Yamal won’t be short of supply and he will get opportunities. The Barca winger has had a great tournament, netting just once but being incredibly influential throughout. He has had 10 shots on target in seven games (six starts and one sub appearance), giving him an average of just under 1.5 per game. I think 2/1 is good odds for him to have a couple on target here.
Enzo Fernandez over 1.5 fouls (10/11)
I’m backing Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández to make a couple of fouls here. We all saw how Argentina played against England – breaking up play, winding up their opponents and never shying away from a tackle. They seem to be the masters of that, and I expect them to play similarly here. Enzo Fernández averages more than one foul per game so far, with nine in seven games, and coming up against a very strong Spanish midfield here, I won’t be surprised if he makes more than two fouls.
