Champions League Predictions and Betting Tips – Our Prediction Model vs Bookies Odds

Every selection on this page carries two numbers: the chance we give it, and the chance the bookmaker’s price implies. Where ours is higher, the odds are longer than the record says they should be.

Odds of 10/11 mean the bookmaker thinks it lands 52% of the time. Evens is 50%. 5/6 is 55%. That is all a price is — a percentage with a margin added.

We work out the same percentage from the records instead, and then we do something this competition demands and a domestic league does not: we ask whether the record means anything here at all.

A 40% chance or better on our own figure. A large edge on a 20% shot is a lottery ticket with good odds, not a bet.

A price of 4/6 or longer, so the return justifies the risk.

A gap to the market of no more than 20 points. When our number sits far above the bookmaker’s, the likelier explanation is a flaw in ours — and our own settled results say so. Bets with a gap above 20 points are down 56% across 10 attempts.

Our model figure is the probability our own data gives the selection. The market figure is the probability implied by the price, which includes the bookmaker’s margin — so an edge of two or three points is within that margin rather than a genuine disagreement. Odds correct at time of writing. 18+ only. Please gamble responsibly — GambleAware.org.

This table is wider than the selections above, and deliberately so. It includes bets the numbers picked out and we then rejected, because what we examined and turned down is more useful than a list with the workings removed.

A market percentage always includes the bookmaker’s cut, which on these markets runs around 5%. That is why the table starts at 8 points rather than 1: below that, our number and the price are broadly saying the same thing.

Fixture by Fixture

Champions League - Last 20 Games

AEK Athens vs LASK

17:45Ref L. Godinho - 5.38 YC

Corners Tips

Over 9.5 Corners

AEK Athens take 5.45 corners a game and LASK 5.70, for 11.15 between them against a line set at 9.5. Ten or more lands about 68% of the time on those figures against the 52% implied by 10/11.

The caution is where those numbers come from. AEK have played 13 of their last 20 in the Greek league and LASK 18 in the Austrian, so neither figure describes what happens against this standard of opposition.

We are showing this rather than backing it, and the reason is that a corner count built on domestic football has misled us before – League One card figures collapsed for the same reason last week.

Shots Tips

M. Usor 4+ Shots Is on the Wrong Side

Moses Usor has had 4 or more shots in 3 of his last 6 for LASK, at 13/8 against our figure of 50% and an implied 38%.

LASK are 21.6% on the market. Every attacking prop we published on a side priced below 25% lost in August, and a shot count needs the player on the ball rather than chasing.

He has started 5 of 7 this season so the minutes are not the question. The fixture is.

Fouls Drawn Tips

E. Buendia 2+ Fouls Drawn

Evensbet365

Emiliano Buendia has been fouled twice or more in 4 of his last 6 for Aston Villa. Our figure of 67% compares with the 50% an Evens price implies.

He has started all 4 of Villa’s matches this season, so there is no rotation question, and the fixture is close to even at 35.3% Club Brugge and 38.8% Aston Villa.

That matters more than it sounds. An attacking prop on a heavy underdog has failed us repeatedly; on a side the market makes marginal favourites it is a different bet.

Corners Tips

Over 9.5 Corners

5/6bet365

Club Brugge take 6.90 corners a game and Aston Villa 4.50, for 11.40 between them against a line set at 9.5. Ten or more lands about 70% of the time against the 55% implied by 5/6.

Club Brugge’s 6.90 is the highest corner count of any side in this round and comes from 19 Belgian league matches. Aston Villa’s half of the number is Premier League and European, so half the figure is measured against comparable opposition.

The market is at 35.3% home, 25.9% draw and 38.8% away, which is the most even fixture on the card.

Goals Tips

Over 2.5 Goals Is Priced About Right

Club Brugge and Aston Villa have seen 3.28 goals a game between them across their last 20, which puts three or more at about 64% against the 60% implied by 4/6.

Level rather than value. Villa have kept 7 clean sheets in 20 and Brugge have scored in 16 of theirs.

Champions League - Last 20 Games

Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal

20:00Ref S. Sozza - 4.78 YC

Corners Tips

Over 9.5 Corners

10/11bet365

Borussia Dortmund take 5.75 corners a game and Villarreal 4.85, for 10.60 between them against a line set at 9.5. Ten or more lands about 61% of the time against the 52% implied by 10/11.

Both figures come from strong domestic leagues – 17 Bundesliga matches for Dortmund and all 20 in La Liga for Villarreal – which makes this the most trustworthy corner line of the six.

Dortmund are 53.8% on the market and Villarreal 23.1%, so this is a side expected to have territory against one expected to defend.

Goals Tips

Under 3.5 Goals Is Priced Above the Records

Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal have seen 3.33 goals a game between them, which puts fewer than four at about 57% against the 60% implied by 4/6.

The market has it slightly better than we do. Villarreal saw goals at both ends in 16 of their last 20, which is the highest rate in this round.

Champions League - Last 20 Games

FC Porto vs Manchester City

20:00

Nothing Clears Our Threshold Here

The Biggest Fixture on the Card Produces No Selection

Manchester City are 55.3% on the market, FC Porto 21.1% and the draw 23.6%. Not one player line and not one team market showed a gap of 8 points or more against the price.

FC Porto have conceded 4 goals in 11 home matches, a rate of 0.36 a game – but 16 of their last 20 were Primeira Liga fixtures, and the one against comparable opposition was a 0-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

No referee has been appointed either, which takes the card markets out. This is a fixture where the honest answer is that we have nothing to say.

Champions League - Last 20 Games

Lille vs Real Betis

20:00Ref G. Kabakov - 5.66 YC

Goals Tips

Under 2.5 Goals

Evensbet365

Lille and Real Betis have seen 2.33 goals a game between them across their last 20, the lowest pairing of the six fixtures. Fewer than three lands about 59% of the time against the 50% an Evens price implies.

Lille saw goals at both ends in only 6 of their last 20 – 30%, the lowest rate in this round by a distance – and Real Betis in 12 of 20.

Both sides have European fixtures in their last 20, so this is among the better-grounded figures on the card.

No Both Teams to Score

11/10bet365

The same records give the no side about 55% against the 48% implied by 11/10. Lille’s 6 of 20 is the figure doing the work.

Real Betis have scored in 15 of their last 20, which is the caution rather than the argument against.

Fouls Drawn Tips

B. Andre 2+ Fouls Drawn

5/6bet365

Benjamin Andre has been fouled twice or more in 4 of his last 6 for Lille, and has started both matches this season. Our figure of 67% compares with the 55% implied by 5/6.

Lille are 42.6% on the market and at home, which is the right side of the role rule for a midfielder receiving under pressure.

Georgi Kabakov books 5.66 yellows a game, the highest rate among the referees appointed to this round, which suggests an official willing to punish.

Champions League - Last 20 Games

Real Madrid vs Inter

20:00Ref M. Oliver - 3.49 YC

Shots Tips

K. Mbappe 6+ Shots

5/6bet365

Kylian Mbappe has had 6 or more shots in 4 of his last 6 for Real Madrid, and has started all 4 matches this season. Our figure of 67% compares with the 55% implied by 5/6.

Real Madrid are 59.1% on the market and at home. A forward taking six shots needs his side to have the ball, which is the shape here.

Six is a high line and he clears it more often than the price allows, which is the whole of the case.

L. Martinez 4+ Shots Is on the Wrong Side

Lautaro Martinez has had 4 or more shots in 3 of his last 6 for Inter, at 2/1 against our figure of 50% and an implied 33%.

Inter are 19.4% on the market. This is the widest gap on the fixture and the shape that has cost us most – every attacking prop we published on a side priced below 25% lost in August.

The record is real and the fixture is wrong for it, which is why it is here and not among our selections.

Corners Tips

Over 9.5 Corners

8/11bet365

Real Madrid take 5.80 corners a game and Inter 6.05, for 11.85 between them against a line set at 9.5. Ten or more lands about 74% of the time against the 58% implied by 8/11.

Both figures come from Spanish and Italian football with European fixtures in the mix, so this is better grounded than the corner lines involving Greek, Austrian or Belgian data.

Inter’s 6.05 is the second highest corner count in this round.

Goals Tips

Under 3.5 Goals Is Priced About Right

Real Madrid and Inter have seen 3.23 goals a game between them, putting fewer than four at about 60% against the 58% implied by 8/11.

Michael Oliver is listed at 3.49 yellows a game, a career figure – his Premier League rate across the last three seasons is 3.90, and his seasons swing by more than 1.7 with no direction to them. We are not pricing a card market on that.

The Problem This Competition Creates

Every side arrives with a record built somewhere else. A Premier League club’s last 20 matches are mostly against other Premier League clubs, so the figures describe the standard they are about to face. In the Champions League they do not.

FC Porto have conceded 4 goals in 11 home matches this season, a rate of 0.36 a game. Sixteen of their last 20 were Primeira Liga fixtures against sides like Arouca and Tondela. The one match against comparable opposition was a 0-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Taking 0.36 at face value against Manchester City would be absurd, and any model that does is measuring the Portuguese league rather than this match.

We weight the figures by the standard they came from, using the UEFA association coefficients — England at 102.0, Spain at 82.5, Portugal at 64.6, Austria at 27.7. A side from a weaker league has its own record counted for less and pulled harder toward a neutral baseline.

It helps, and it does not solve it. Tested against the market across this round, the adjustment cut our average error from 13.5 points to 11.0 — a real improvement on the widest mismatches and a small cost on the even ones. That is still too far out to publish a match-result prediction, which is why we do not publish one.

What We Are Not Pricing, and Why

Match results. Our model reads corners, shots and fouls well and results badly, because a result depends on squad quality that counting past matches cannot see. Across this round it sits 11 points from the market on average and 21 points out on Porto vs Manchester City. We publish the price rather than argue with it.

Attacking props on heavy underdogs. Lautaro Martínez taking four or more shots at 2/1 is the widest gap on the whole card and it is not one of our selections. Inter are 19.4% at Real Madrid, and every attacking prop we published on a side priced below 25% lost last month. The record is real; the fixture is wrong for it.

Corner lines built on the wrong league. AEK Athens and LASK produce 11.15 corners a game between them, which looks like a clear over. Thirteen of AEK’s last 20 were Greek league matches and 18 of LASK’s were Austrian. We have been caught by exactly this before — League One card figures collapsed last week for the same reason — so it is shown and not backed.

How the Model Works

For a player line we take his last 6 matches and ask how often he cleared it, then check the rate per 90 minutes behind it so one big return does not flatter an average. A player under 450 minutes does not appear at all.

We also check he is playing. The pull now reports starts this season separately from the 20-match sample, which matters in September when most of that sample is last season. A forward with 4.31 shots per 90 who has started once in five is not a selection, however good the rate looks.

For a team market we use both sides’ last 20 matches, weighted by the standard those matches were played at.

Where a rate comes off a small sample we pull it towards a baseline before quoting it, because 3 goals in 4 appearances is a hot streak rather than a rate.

Our Record

We track every selection on this page and settle it against the official match data, losses included.

The tracker started on 1 September 2026 and the Champions League is our newest competition, so the record here begins with this round. Across all competitions we are 44 winners from 100 settled bets and losing money — down 7.78 points, an ROI of -7.8%.

That sample is too small to conclude anything from, and we would rather say so than quote a percentage off 100 bets as though it were a track record.
