What Is an Anytime Goalscorer Bet?
An anytime goalscorer bet is a wager on a specific player to score a goal at any point during a match, regardless of which team wins, what the final score is, or whether the goal is a winner, equaliser or consolation. As long as your selected player finds the net at any point during the 90 minutes of normal time, the bet wins.
This is the simplest and most popular form of goalscorer betting. It is available on virtually every football match at every major UK bookmaker.
Anytime goalscorer meaning in brief: back a player to score – they just need to score once, at any time in the game.
Anytime Goalscorer vs First Goalscorer – What’s the Difference?
These are two separate bet types that are often confused.
Anytime goalscorer – your player needs to score at any point in the match. If they score in the 89th minute after being introduced as a substitute, the bet wins.
First goalscorer – your player needs to score the very first goal of the match. If they score the second goal, the bet loses regardless of when they score.
First goalscorer bets pay at considerably longer odds than anytime goalscorer because the conditions are harder to meet. A player who scores 15 goals per season might score first in around a quarter to a third of those games. Anytime goalscorer bets win whenever that player scores, making them better value for backing consistent scorers.
Anytime Goalscorer Rules
The rules on anytime goalscorer bets are consistent across most major UK bookmakers, but there are a few important points to understand before placing.
Own goals do not count. If your selected player puts the ball into their own net, this does not count as a goal for anytime goalscorer bets. The player must score in the correct net.
Extra time and penalties do not count. Anytime goalscorer bets are settled on 90 minutes of normal time plus injury time only. Goals scored during extra time in cup matches, or in penalty shootouts, do not count. This applies at all major bookmakers, including Betway, bet365, William Hill and Betfred.
The player must play. Most bookmakers require the selected player to take part in the match for the bet to stand. If a player is named in the starting line-up but does not come on to the pitch at all, the bet is typically void, and your stake is returned. Check individual bookmaker terms – some require the player to play from the start, others only require them to take part.
Substitutes. A player who comes on as a substitute can score, and it will be an anytime goalscorer bet winner. The player does not need to start the match. Check individual bookmaker rules for this.
Betway anytime goalscorer rules specifically note that bets are void if the player does not participate and that extra time/penalties are excluded – these are broadly the same terms used across all UK-licensed bookmakers.
How to Pick Anytime Goalscorer Tips
Picking anytime goalscorer predictions requires a different approach to match result betting. Here are the factors our tipsters use when identifying the best goalscorer predictions each day.
Goals per 90 minutes. This is the baseline stat. A striker averaging 0.5 or more goals per 90 minutes is a serious anytime goalscorer candidate in any match. Look beyond the headline goal total and divide by minutes played to get the true rate.
Expected goals (xG). A player running hot relative to their xG may regress. A player underperforming their xG is potentially overdue. xG data from Understat, FBRef or Sofascore gives a clearer picture of the underlying scoring threat than raw goals alone. See our expected goals guide for more on how to use xG in your betting.
Fixture quality. The best striker in the world is a weaker anytime goalscorer selection against a top defensive side. Match the player to the opponent – a striker with good numbers against weaker defences becomes more appealing when facing a leaky backline.
Home vs away. Most strikers score at a meaningfully higher rate at home. Factor in whether a player is playing at home or away before committing.
Penalty takers. A designated penalty taker has an additional route to a goal beyond open play. In matches where penalties are likely, against a team that concedes set-piece fouls frequently, or in games where your selected team is expected to dominate, penalty takers carry additional value.
Set piece threat. Headers and set-piece goals add up. A centre-forward or attacking midfielder with a strong aerial record has more ways to score than a technically good but physically lightweight forward.
Rotation risk. Always check team news before placing. A player listed as a doubt, or in a rotation position ahead of a midweek game, carries more risk. Late team news is crucial for anytime goalscorer bets placed close to kick-off.
Premier League Anytime Goalscorer Odds
The Premier League is the most popular market for anytime goalscorer betting in the UK. The top scorers in the division are priced accordingly – typically between 6/4 and 3/1 for the most consistent forwards in the league, with mid-table attackers generally available between 3/1 and 5/1 and rotation players at 5/1 upwards.
Premier League anytime goalscorer odds are available across all major UK bookmakers. bet365, Betfred and Boylesports all run player specials and enhanced goalscorer odds across Premier League fixtures each gameweek. Our free bets hub has the best offers available to use on today’s predictions.
Each Way First Goalscorer
Some bookmakers offer each-way first goalscorer markets, paying a fraction of the odds if your player scores but not first. This is worth considering on first goalscorer bets where the player is a strong scoring threat but not necessarily the most likely player to open the scoring.
The each-way terms vary by bookmaker so always check before placing. Typically, the place terms on first goalscorer each-way bets pay at 1/4 or 1/5 the odds for anytime goalscorer.
Anytime Goalscorer in Accumulators and Bet Builders
Anytime goalscorer selections are a popular addition to both accumulator bets and bet builder selections.
Goalscorer accumulators. Combining three or more anytime goalscorer selections into an acca multiplies the odds significantly. A three-fold of selections at 2/1, 7/4 and 2/1 returns around 27/1 combined. The risk is that all three must score – one blank banker loses the whole acca.
Bet builders. Pairing an anytime goalscorer selection with a match result or over/under goals market in a same-game bet builder is a popular strategy. Back a striker to score anytime and their team to win for a short combined price, or back a goalscorer with over 2.5 goals for a more speculative return. See our bet builder tips for daily same-game selections.
The bet365 Acca Boost boosts your returns on qualifying accumulators, including goalscorer multiples – worth using if you are building a goalscorer acca at bet365.
