The hosts are a relatively unknown quantity, however they’ve only won one of their last eight outings, with five of those being a draw. Ecuador drawn four of their last five games 0-0, with the other being a 1-0 victory over Cape Verde. They clearly don’t lose a lot of goals, so I think that will continue in this one on the biggest stage in what I expect to be a nervy encounter. I think Ecuador are more likely to win as they appear to have a stronger squad with more well-known, higher profile players, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a draw in the opener.

For similar reasons to those stated above, I expect this to be a low scoring game. Ecuador haven’t conceded a goal in their last six matches, and in the one before that, conceded only one against Argentina. I think both teams will be keen to avoid losing goals in the opening fixture and will set up defensively given the significance of the occasion.
