This game is huge. Newcastle and Sunderland have not played each other since March 2016, and the two will be right up for this one. As one of the biggest derbies in the country, this one will be explosive. I think Newcastle will defeat their neighbours, who are currently sixth in the Championship, having won 12 of 26 league matches, losing 10 and drawing four. Newcastle haven’t defeated the Black Cats in nine games, their last derby win coming in August 2011, with Sunderland drawing three and winning six of those nine. However, Newcastle have far more quality in their ranks these days, with players like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, and I think they will have too much for Sunderland here.

 

Both teams to score

Despite thinking Newcastle to win, I think this one has both teams to score written all over it. Both teams will be desperate to claim the bragging rights for their fans, club, and city, and it will be an incredibly quick out-of-the-block encounter. Sunderland have scored in seven of their last 10 games, while Newcastle have scored in eight of their last 10. In the last 15 matches between the two, both teams have scored on eight occasions. With this being the first meeting between them in a long time, I think both teams will be at it from the off, and I expect them both to have chances while also being nervy at the back. Both teams to score is a good bet in this one.

 

Bruno Guimaraes to be booked

A first Tyne-Wear derby for many is this one, including Newcastle’s hard hitting midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. In his 19 Premier League appearances this season, the Brazilian has already picked up eight bookings, making 30 fouls in the process. With the nature of this fixture, I think there will be plenty of cards, and Bruno is great odds of getting one of them.
