ITV Racing Tips for Sunday 30th August

ITV Racing Tips

The ITV Racing cameras keep rolling into Sunday with nine live TV races being shown across the afternoon with the pick of the action from Goodwood, Beverley, Yarmouth and Cork in Ireland.

13:25 GOODWOOD – Tattersalls EBF Novice Stakes (GBB/GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (2yo) 1m

Having shaped well on his racecourse debut, MISTER WHIPPY put that experience to good use when improving on that run to finish a close second behind Gambling Man at Newbury latest and Ed Walker’s charge can get off the mark at the third attempt.

The Starspangledbanner gelding was beaten less than one length that day, making most until headed in the last furlong although he stuck well to his task. This extra furlong isn’t sure to suit, but he’s nonetheless open to further progress and a breakthrough victory wouldn’t come as a surprise.

13:40 BEVERLEY – William Hill Silver Cup Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m2f

TIGER is in good fettle currently and Ian Williams’ charge can resume winning ways here having gone close latest at Ayr when running under a penalty.

The Wooded gelding had won at Chester the time before and he was beaten only a neck on his latest start, beaten behind Pol Roger with the two clear. His revised mark and contesting a stronger race both ask for more, but he may still have some measure of progress yet to come.

With ground conditions unlikely to present an issue, he can post a big run here.

14:00 GOODWOOD – Virgin Bet Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 1m

INSPIRED can get back to winning ways here for Karl Burke and the Dubawi gelding arrives in good form.

A Hamilton winner two starts ago, he had finished runner-up the time before at Carlisle and he almost followed up that latest victory with another runner-up effort when last seen out at Haydock earlier in the month behind Arctic Thunder.

He’s only 1lb higher here and he’ll handle these conditions better than a few, while the trip is no issue. His run last time out came in a stronger race than this and he ought to be competitive again.

14:15 BEVERLEY – William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f

SHAGRAAN won this in similar conditions twelve months ago and Clive Cox’s charge can take advantage of the drop back in grade to resume winning ways.

The Sioux Nation gelding has struggled in Group company this term, most recently beating only two home behind Rumstar in the Group Three Coral Charge; but dropping back to Listed level and the application of cheekpieces for the first time can see him post a much improved effort.

Soft ground is no concern given the conditions in which he won this race last year and headgear could eke out more from him so a big run wouldn’t come as a shock now his sights have been lowered.

14:35 GOODWOOD – Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 6f

FLASH HARRY has been running better than his bare form figures might suggest and last year’s racewinner can successfully defend his crown.

Clive Cox’s charge took this contest twelve months ago with a defeat of Purest Time and although winless since he has continued to compete at a good level, finishing ninth in the Stewards’ Cup here two starts ago and most recently in another valuable handicap at York although he didn’t cut much ice there.

The handicapper has given him a big chance with a 2lbs drop in the weights which leaves him 1lb below last year’s winning mark and proven on the track he could go close here.

14:55 YARMOUTH – Bodhi Solutions – Exceeding Expectations In Construction Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 5f

HYPNOTISED has ran well on his last two starts and the No Nay Never gelding can gain some just reward for two near misses.

Harry Charlton’s charge was a winner at Southwell last September and having shaped as if amiss on his reappearance in April he was given plenty of time and he’s since racked up back-to-back runner-up efforts at Sandown and Newbury latest.

He looked awkward on the latter occasion, hanging badly to his left which might have cost him the race; but it was only his sixth career run and he remains capable of better.

15:10 GOODWOOD – Virgin Bet Prestige Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 7f

NUIT D’ECLAIR brings some solid form into this and Kevin Phillipart De Foy’s charge can get back to winning ways.

The Night Of Thunder filly was a debut winner at Newbury back in July, after which she finished just one length fourth in an Ascot Group Three won by Moonrise; she finished just a nose behind one which has subsequently placed in a Group One and stepped up to this trip latest at Newmarket for the Sweet Solera Stakes she found only one too good.

She was run down close home there having made eye-catching progress from midfield to take up the running between the final two furlongs and arguably an extra furlong may have helped her. Nevertheless, she can be given another chance and as the highest rated of these she can go close.

15:30 CORK – Coolmore Stud Little Big Bear Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (3yo+) 7f

MAGNY COURS was thought good enough to have a crack at the Irish 1000 Guineas on her last run and while she was never a factor there it might be worth chancing Daniel McLoughlin’s charge back in calmer waters.

The Awtaad filly hasn’t won since scoring on her debut, but she’s been running well in defeat and rounded off last season with an excellent second to Half Sovereign in a French Group Three contest. She kicked off the current campaign by chasing home True Love in the Priory Belle Stakes at Leopardstown.

Her latest run can be treated with some caution as she was placed under observation by the vets prior to the start, trotted up several times before the race so it’s possible she wasn’t fully sound and a three months’ absence since suggests something may have been amiss.

Assuming she’s sound now then it wouldn’t be a big shock to see her competitive with both trip and ground no issue.

15:45 GOODWOOD – Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Selling Stakes Cl3 (3-4yo) 1m3f

SUDBURY HILL is largely consistent on the flat and Harry Derham’s charge can go close in this contest.

A winner over hurdles back in June, the Cotai Glory gelding responded well to cheekpieces for the first time back on the level when scoring at Salisbury the following month and he almost doubled up back at that venue latest when denied only by Supplicate, beaten two lengths.

He’s worth another try at this longer distance on the flat given his hurdling exploits and if the headgear continues to have a positive effect then he could be capable of getting back on the scoresheet in a relatively poor contest.
