What is the NAP for Saturday’s ITV Racing?
Our NAP is Inner City Blues in the 15:00 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. Karl Burke’s colt is unbeaten and steps up to Group 1 company with the profile of a horse still improving — exactly the sort you want to be with over six furlongs on the Rowley Mile. He’s the one we’re most confident about across the whole afternoon.
Our next best (NB) is Eternal Force in the 13:35 at Haydock, a well-treated handicapper who looks ahead of his mark.
13:22 Newmarket — Jersey Lily Nursery: Next Of Kin (each-way)
The card opens with a competitive nursery, and Next Of Kin is our each-way angle. Trained by William Haggas, he has the pedigree and the yard to keep progressing off a workable mark, and the each-way terms in a big field give a bit of insurance if he can’t quite get his head in front. A place-and-hope play rather than a banker, but the each-way value is there.
13:35 Haydock — Mile Handicap: Eternal Force (NB)
This is our next best of the day. Eternal Force runs off a mark of 96 in a mile handicap and looks the type still to be ahead of the handicapper. Haydock’s galloping mile should suit, and with a bit of tempo to aim at he has the class to pick up his rivals late. The one to be with at the Merseyside track.
13:55 Newmarket — Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2): Burning Up
A strong renewal of the Royal Lodge, but Burning Up ticks the boxes. Karl Burke’s unbeaten Too Darn Hot colt has done nothing wrong so far and steps up in trip and grade with room to improve. Progressive, unbeaten and from a yard in top form — that’s the profile that wins races like this, and he’s our strong fancy in the Group 2.
14:10 Haydock — 5f Sprint: Trilby (each-way)
Back to Haydock for a five-furlong sprint, and course form is the key. Trilby has won at the track four times and clearly loves the place, so we’ll take the each-way value in a race where a course specialist can outrun the market. Sprints are volatile, hence each-way rather than win-only, but the track record makes this one hard to leave out.
14:27 Newmarket — Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1): Libertango
The first of the fillies’ Group 1s, and Libertango is our selection. She’s already landed both the Albany and the Lowther this season — top-level juvenile form — and arrives with the strongest body of work in the field. Proven at the highest level for two-year-old fillies, she sets the standard and is our strong pick to add the Cheveley Park.
15:00 Newmarket — Middle Park Stakes (Group 1): Inner City Blues (NAP)
Our NAP. Inner City Blues is unbeaten and takes his chance at Group 1 level for Karl Burke, and everything about him suggests there’s more to come. A clean profile, a yard flying, and six furlongs on the Rowley Mile to suit — this is the bet of the day for us. If he handles the step up in class as we expect, he takes plenty of stopping.
15:40 Newmarket — Cambridgeshire Handicap: Asmen Warrior (each-way)
The famous Cambridgeshire is one of the great betting heats of the season, run over a mile and one furlong with a huge field. Asmen Warrior, trained by James Owen, is our each-way shot from stall 21. A high draw is no bar in a race like this and the each-way terms are generous in a cavalry charge, so we’ll take the value and hope he’s spat out the right side of the split. A classic “get me in the each-way places” play to round off the day.
