13:50 Goodwood — Coral Goodwood Handicap — each-way

KENTUCKY RIVER (EW) is chanced in the opener with Olly Murphy’s charge switching back to the flat after a spell hurdling.

The Camelot gelding hasn’t raced on the level since scoring at Pontefract last August on his final start in this sphere, beating Carlton by seven lengths and looking well-suited by the step up in trip. He’s clearly benefited from having his stamina drawn out, and he’s won two of his last three starts over hurdles at this distance, so he’ll certainly have no issue seeing out this yardage.

Returning to the flat off a mark of 81 less his rider’s claim, he could be very well treated on his hurdling form and a big performance wouldn’t come as a huge surprise here.

14:25 Goodwood — HKJC World Pool Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) — NAP

TALK OF NEW YORK could prove a tough nut to crack here, and Charlie Appleby’s charge can get back to winning ways.

The Wootton Bassett colt had registered victories at Newmarket and in a Sandown Listed contest before having a crack at Bow Echo, and he lost little caste in defeat in going down by little under two lengths behind that rival in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

He briefly led into the last furlong, and despite racing keenly, he saw the trip out well although it would certainly help him to relax. That form, however, is strong, the winner and runner-up fighting out the finish in the Sussex Stakes here on Wednesday, while the fourth has won an Irish Group Two since.

He’s likely to prove very tough to beat here if running up to a similar level.

15:00 Goodwood — Coral Golden Mile (Heritage Handicap) — each-way

The Royal Hunt Cup might have come too soon for MISTER WINSTON (EW), who can bounce back from that effort here.

Andrew Balding’s charge had won two of his previous three starts, scoring at Newmarket on his reappearance and then doubling up at Epsom two starts later. There was only twelve days between that victory and his outing at Royal Ascot, and he was never a factor under his penalty, where he eventually beat only five home having raced on the unfavoured far side.

Given a bit of a break following that run, the Churchill gelding could be worth another chance in an open handicap and while 1lb higher here than at Ascot he can nevertheless put in an improved showing.

15:35 Goodwood — King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)

SPICY MARG won at this meeting twelve months ago, and Michael Bell’s charge may be worth siding with back at this venue to resume winning ways.

The Starspangledbanner filly won three times in all last term, rounding off her campaign with victory over six furlongs in the Listed Bosra Sham Stakes at Newmarket. Having failed to see out the trip on her reappearance in the 1000 Guineas, she twice bumped into Venetian Sun when dropped back to six furlongs at both Haydock and Ascot, and she wasn’t disgraced when last seen at York behind Flora Of Bermuda.

The form of her last couple of runs have been significantly franked; Venetian Sun went close in the Group One July Cup, while Flora Of Bermuda won a Group Three here on Wednesday.

While her recent runs have all come over six furlongs, her course win came at this distance and a big run wouldn’t come as the biggest shock, especially if they go hard up front to set the race up for her.

16:10 Goodwood — Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes

BOILING POINT won on his last visit here and Karl Burke’s charge can repeat the feat to resume winning ways.

The Too Darn Hot horse was a Listed winner back in 2024 for Roger Varian and while he’s been a little in-and-out with his form following a switch to this yard, he has nevertheless consistently run to a decent level in defeat including when beaten a head in last season’s Group Three Strensall Stakes.

That near miss led to him winning the Cambridgeshire and he might have needed his next run following a break in the Winter Derby. Having returned to action following another break in the Earl Of Sefton, finishing third, he struck here over slightly further to take a Listed prize from Naqeeb, and he’s made the frame in both starts since.

Only fourth at Sandown last time, his stamina was possibly stretched by the stiff ten furlongs; that form has been boosted, however, and he ought to be capable of a bold show here.

16:45 Goodwood — Hawes & Curtis Nursery Handicap

DUBAI CHAMPION has improved with each start, getting off the mark at the third attempt when successful at Hamilton latest and Ben Haslam’s charge can follow up over this additional furlong.

Third at Ripon the time before in a race that has seen the winner since finish fourth in the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot, he was a comfortable winner when last seen, although the form is probably fairly ordinary. That said, he did the job nicely, and he could be the type to improve markedly for a switch to handicaps.

This extra furlong ought to be within his range and an initial 83 rating might not prove too prohibitive, so a big run wouldn’t come as a shock, especially with Ryan Moore an eye-catching booking for the Persian Force colt.

17:20 Goodwood — World Pool Handicap

PIERIAN was possibly unsuited by the soft ground when finishing fourth in a Listed contest at Longchamp last month and back on a quicker surface the Palace Pier filly is given another chance.

William Haggas’ charge had won her two previous outings following a promising debut, scoring at Salisbury and Yarmouth respectively; the latter saw him turn in a nine-length demolition job of Spirit Dreamer in a match.

She did find herself on the end of a similar beating latest, not handling the conditions ion a deeper race, but she did manage to finish fourth to Calasita and this may prove an easier assignment switching to handicaps where she could feature on a workable mark.

17:55 Goodwood — British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap — NB

ROOM FOURTEEN is on a roll at present, and James Fanshawe’s charge can continue her good spell to win again.

The step up to this trip has seemingly worked well for the Without Parole filly, who has registered victories over the distance at Yarmouth, Redcar and most recently at Doncaster on her final run, where she ran out a comfortable winner from Brighton View.

She gave the impression there was still more to come from her and a subsequent 6lbs rise may not prove enough of a burden to slow her progress. She can win again here despite finding herself in a stronger grade now.
