13:50 Goodwood — Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap
HARMONICS was too keen at Royal Ascot when last seen, and it might be worth giving the Gosden runner another opportunity to build on his previous good form.
The Lucky Vega colt had won his two prior starts at Southwell and Doncaster respectively before tackling the Golden Gate Stakes, where he finished eighth. That race has thrown up a Listed winner since, so the form could be decent, and he turns out here off the same mark.
That effort is forgiven, and he can bounce back here with a better performance.
14:25 Goodwood — Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) — NB
NIGHT IN VEGAS was far from disgraced in the Coventry Stakes when losing his unbeaten record and Eve Johnson Houghton’s charge can bounce back to winning form here.
An Ascot winner on debut, the Lucky Vega colt struck over C&D on his next start, beating Love Is, and he was only beaten around one length into fifth back at Ascot when last seen.
He was possibly just given too much to do, but he has proven himself a high-class performer with the potential for better still, and as a previous course winner, he gets the vote to resume winning ways.
15:00 Goodwood — Maison Perrier Gordon Stakes (Group 3)
Ger Lyons’ runners always command respect on their rare forays out of Ireland, and GERYON can take this valuable prize back to Meath.
The Lope De Vega colt might be a little more exposed than a few of these rivals, but he’s shown himself a smart operator in Ireland, often in the frame in Listed company, and he ran out a ready winner of the Group Three Meld Stakes when last seen in action, beating Cowardofthecounty by three lengths.
His previous fourth to Purview in the International Stakes at the Curragh reads well; he was only one length behind a subsequent Group Two winner, while the race-winner is potentially top-class. He may yet have more to offer, and it wouldn’t come as a huge shock to see him competitive here.
15:35 Goodwood — Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) — NAP
Quite a disappointing turnout for this Group One with just five runners. DIAMOND NECKLACE gets the vote to continue her unbeaten record and extend her sequence to six.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge won three times last term on varying ground, culminating in victory in a French Group One; the St Mark’s Basilica filly has continued her progression this term, adding further Group One victories at Longchamp and Chantilly respectively, the latter in the Prix de Diane.
Those wins all came on significantly softer ground; but she’s shown she could handle good ground in the past, although she is yet to encounter a surface this quick. If she handles the conditions then she’s likely to prove tough to beat here.
16:10 Goodwood — Buccellati Handicap — each-way
QUANTUM POWER (EW) is on a roll at present, and while this demands more from Tom Clover’s charge, he may prove equal to the challenge.
The Supremacy gelding has won his last three starts, most recently when beating Wedonttellies at Newmarket earlier in the month, scoring by a half length, and while he has a 5lbs rise in the weights to contend with in a better grade of race, he could still have more to offer.
His previous Windsor victory has thrown up a couple of winners, albeit in a lesser grade, but he may be worth chancing that there could still be further improvement to come and he remains in similar form.
16:45 Goodwood — Whispering Angel Nursery Handicap — each-way
An impressive Carlisle winner first time up, MIA FANTASIA (EW) lost no caste in defeat when finishing third behind Dr Rascal in a valuable novice race at Ascot latest, and Hugo Palmer’s charge could be worth chancing on his handicap debut.
The Make Believe colt struck at the first time of asking with a two lengths’ defeat of The First Drop, after which he was beaten six lengths into third, not helped by a poor start. That form has been franked, however, the winner going on to land the Vintage Stakes here on Tuesday.
Switching to handicaps now, he could prove well treated off an opening mark of 79; with potential for plenty of improvement to come, he can get back on the scoresheet.
17:20 Goodwood — Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes — each-way
Most of these are making their racecourse debut, but SO LOVELY looked a potentially useful sort when finishing runner-up on her debut at Leopardstown two weeks ago and with that experience to call upon it may be worth sticking with Aidan O’Brien’s charge to go one better.
The Wootton Bassett filly was given a bit too much to do on that occasion, held up off the pace before making late headway, and she kept on well to the line without ever seriously threatening.
That experience won’t have been lost on her, and she should cope with coming back a furlong in trip. With further improvement expected, she could well prove a tough nut to crack.
17:55 Goodwood — HKJC World Pool Handicap — each-way
RUNSWICK (EW) might be worth an interest in the day three finale on the back of a solid victory at Carlisle when last seen.
Ed Dunlop’s charge was a winner last term at Epsom, and the Ghaiyyath colt had continued in good fettle since returning from a break, finishing third and runner-up in starts at Nottingham and Chester on soft ground before scoring on quicker ground last month.
He ran out a two-length victor over Barley on that occasion, making all and readily coming clear for a good victory which the handicapper has rewarded him with a 6lbs rise. That demands more in a stronger race, but he appears to be going the right way and with the prospect of better still to come he can make his presence felt.
