To Win To Nil World Cup Tips: The Nations With The World Cup’s Tightest Defence

World Cup Stadium Guide 2022

For most of us, when it comes to the World Cup, and the games we’re not invested in, we want to see goals. We often heap on the both teams to score market, despite there being plenty of teams who operate tightly at the back.

It’s how Italy won the European Championship, and in fact it’s what every successful nation at a major tournament is based upon – a strong defence.

This winter will be no different, and when it comes to betting on the World Cup there are plenty of fixtures in the Group Stage where the Win To Nil market looks a solid bet.

With the opening fixture now around the corner, here is where we’d be looking to bet on those games where clean sheets will earn wins…

England v Iran: England to win to nil at 4/5 with Paddy Power

Despite England’s defensive frailties of late, and the fact that there are concerns about fitness and form with some members of Southgate’s squad, the Three Lions should have few concerns about conceding against Iran, as long as they remain switched on.

In the last two tournaments Southgate has looked to ensure his defence is solid and they are odds on to keep a clean sheet in their Group B opener. We’d expect them to do so and it’s a decent bet to add to any accumulator at 4/5 with Paddy Power.

Argentina v Saudi Arabia: Argentina to win to nil at 4/7 with Paddy Power

Not really a fixture you’re going to make any money off, but Argentina go into the World Cup with a strong defence that have conceded just two in their last 10 fixtures, and while at 4/7 to win to nil in their opener with Saudi Arabia may not seem appealing, backing them to go through the entire Group Stage without conceding may be a solid punt.

They have some excellent defensive players and are real contenders not just to top Group C but go all the way this winter.

Denmark v Tunisia: Denmark to hold firm and win to nil at 5/6 with Paddy Power

The Danish will once again be considered dark horses for this tournament after impressing greatly at the European Championships, despite the traumatic events that occurred. Christian Eriksen is back in the squad and is playing some good football for Manchester United, which should provide a number of goals for his countrymen.

At the back they are strong, and they have already managed to keep France out this year, who they will face once again in Group D. Against both Tunisia and Australia we can expect them to keep clean sheets, and at 5/6 with Paddy Power it seems almost guaranteed in their opener with Tunisia.

France v Australia: The French to get defence off to flawless start priced 4/5 to win to nil with Paddy Power

France will be without a couple of key players as they look to try and claim back-to-back World Cup titles, but Didier Deschamps has plenty of talent to keep the doors locked and prevent the net from bulging.

Raphael Varane is expected to be fit, while the likes of Benjamin Pavard, Jules Kounde and Lucas Hernandez are all in the squad, which will make them difficult to break down. That will certainly be the case in their opener with Australia, who will not have the quality to really test the French and at 4/5 the to win to nil should go on anyone’s betslip.

Belgium v Canada: The Belgians to stop Canada from netting and taking three points at 11/10 with Paddy Power

The Belgians may have an ageing defence, but their experience and knowhow will certainly be enough to see off a Canadian team who have surprised a few in qualifying for the tournament.

While the Belgians should have no problem seeing them off, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans and Leandro Trossard in their side, we also believe they will do so with no reply and get their campaign off to the perfect start. It’s a rather generous 11/10 on that to happen with Paddy Power and we’ll certainly snap those odds up for an accumulator.
