1:50 Sandown — bet365 Esher Cup Handicap (Class 2, 1m, 3yo 0-100)

Tip: ORGANISE (Win)

Unbeaten ORGANISE (5/4) can extend his winning run to 3-3 in the TV opener.

John and Thady Gosden won this race twelve months ago, and the Night Of Thunder colt made a winning debut back in November on the all-weather before returning at Yarmouth two weeks ago, where he ground out victory over Weheedd.

He raced keenly there, still showing signs of inexperience, and he was one of the first off the bridle when the pace lifted. However, he stuck well to his task and finished well on top to win going away by just over one length.

That bare form is probably nothing special, but he could well develop into a decent sort as he gains experience and a mark of 97 on his handicap debut can prove to be very fair given he’s open to further improvement. The way he hit the line at Yarmouth suggests he’ll be better for a stiffer test so this track could play to his strengths and no surprise to see him going close here.

2:05 Perth — QuinnBet Highland National Handicap Chase (Class 3, 3m6½f)

Tip: EXPRESS SURPRISE (Each-way)

EXPRESS SURPRISE (13/2) might be worth siding with over this marathon trip, and the Mahler gelding is no stranger to victory, winning three of his last four including his latest at Chepstow last month when staying on stoutly to beat Fern Hill by one length.

Also a winner previously at Wetherby and Uttoxeter in December, he finished fourth at Windsor over an extended 3m 4f behind Neo King, staying on at one pace and hinting that he’d probably get further.

He found plenty for pressure latest to overhaul the eventual runner-up with the pair clear and a subsequent 7lbs rise may not prove too prohibitive given that form has been boosted with the third and fourth horses home both winning since.

It may be he’ll want a bit more cut in the ground than he’ll get here, but he is effective on this surface and a big run in the Perth feature wouldn’t come as a huge shock.

2:25 Sandown — bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes (Group 3, 1m2f)

Tip: ALMERIC (Win)

ALMERIC (6/4) has shown winning form twice when returning from a break, and Andrew Balding’s charge can get back on the scoresheet here.

Twice a winner at Listed level last campaign, he disappointed when upped to Group One level at Ascot when last seen, finishing down the field behind Calandagan in the Champion Stakes. He didn’t help his chances by missing the break, so that performance can probably be forgiven, and his previous victory in the Doonside Cup represents decent form, with the runner-up going close in a Group Three next time, while the third has won since at Listed level.

The Study Of Man colt may well prefer softer ground than he’ll get here, but he finished fourth here on debut on similar ground and his record fresh is noteworthy, where he’s won both times returning from breaks of more than five months. His stable is also in good form and he can make a winning reappearance here.

2:40 Perth — Perth Racecourse Racing & Events Handicap Hurdle (Class 3, 3m2½f)

Tip: SLEEDAGH (Each-way)

SLEEDAGH (10/1) has been largely consistent over hurdles since joining this yard, and although the Milan gelding remains winless, this could finally be his day.

He’s had just five starts over timber as well as one in a bumper, twice turned out here where he’s finished runner-up on both occasions, and he finished third on his penultimate start at Musselburgh in a higher grade than this back in January.

He again finished third on his last start at Doncaster, beaten a long way behind Tormund Giantsbane, perhaps amiss on that occasion and subsequently given a break. He returns to action here in a handicap for the first time, and a mark of 118 could prove workable given he’s open to improvement over this longer trip.

Ground conditions may prove a little quick, but after just five starts he could still have more to offer over staying trips and Lucinda Russell’s charge can make the frame, although it is a slight worry that the yard is relatively quiet at present.

3:00 Sandown — bet365 Mile (Group 2, 1m) — Feature Race

Tip: FIELD OF GOLD (Win)

FIELD OF GOLD (5/4) was one of the big talking horses last term, and while he blotted his copybook slightly in the 2000 Guineas, he did win successive Group Ones afterwards at Ascot and the Curragh before ending his campaign at Goodwood, where he finished fourth behind Qirat in the Sussex Stakes.

John and Thady Gosden’s Kingman colt was found to be lame after so that run can be forgiven, and he shaped as if needing the outing when returning in the QEII at Ascot, finishing fifth.

Fitness may again be a slight worry, but he won the Craven Stakes twelve months ago on the back of a similar layoff, and he’s won here before, while the quick ground is very much in his favour. Team Gosden are also in rude health, and if close to his best, he could take some beating here.

3:35 Sandown — bet365 Classic Trial (Group 3, 1m2f)

Tip: AL ZANATI (Win)

This race often serves as a Derby Trial, and it could be AL ZANATI (10/1) who comes out on top.

Charlie Appleby’s Dubawi colt was a debut winner last term, scoring at Newmarket before stepping into a Group Three for his next outing, where only the smart Hankelow proved too strong for him in the Autumn Stakes.

He wasted little time, however, in regaining winning ways, taking a French Group Three in November on his final start, and there could be further improvement to come over this extra distance. The form of his debut victory is working out quite well with several winners coming out of that race, and he looked in need of a stiffer test when meeting with defeat next time.

This ground will hold no fears, and his yard is in decent fettle at present, so a big run wouldn’t come as a surprise, assuming he’s fit to go on his reappearance.
