What Is the bet365 Tennis Retirement Guarantee?
The Tennis Retirement Guarantee protects your bet if the player you have backed wins the match because their opponent retires hurt. Rather than having the bet voided as it would be at most bookmakers, bet365 pay it out as a winner.
It applies to pre-match bets on the To Win Match market for main draw singles matches at:
- ATP events (excluding the Challenger Tour)
- WTA events
- Grand Slam events
How Does the Tennis Retirement Guarantee Work?
Single Bets
If you back a player in a singles match and their opponent retires hurt during the match, bet365 will pay your bet as a winner. Your stake is returned as cash and your winnings are paid as Bet Credits.
If you backed the player who retires hurt, your bet is settled as void and your stake returned as cash – in line with standard tennis rules.
Multiple Bets
If one of your selections in a multiple bet wins because their opponent retires hurt, that selection is treated as a winner. If your multiple then goes on to be successful overall:
- Your stake and any winnings, not including this selection, are paid in cash
- The additional winnings resulting from the Retirement Guarantee selection are paid in Bet Credits
Bet Builder Bets
The Retirement Guarantee does not apply to Bet Builder bets. If the To Win Match market is included in a Bet Builder and either player retires hurt, the entire Bet Builder is settled as void, and the stake is returned as cash.

Important Things to Know
Bet Credits are not withdrawable. Winnings paid as Bet Credits cannot be withdrawn directly. Any returns from Bet Credits stakes are added to your withdrawable balance but the Bet Credits stake itself is not returned. For example, a £10 Bet Credits stake at 2/1 returns £20 in withdrawable funds rather than the £30 a cash stake would return.
Bet Credits expire in 7 days. Once credited, Bet Credits must be used within 7 days. If additional Bet Credits are added within that window, the full balance expires 7 days after the last addition.
Cashed out bets do not qualify. If you cash out a bet before a player retires, the Retirement Guarantee no longer applies.
Retirement Guarantee selections do not count towards Acca Boost. Selections treated as winners under the Retirement Guarantee will not count as qualifying selections for the bet365 100% Acca Boost promotion.
Challenger Tour is excluded. The offer applies to main ATP tour events only – not the ATP Challenger Tour.
Why This Offer Matters for Tennis Betting
Retirement in tennis – whether due to injury, illness or other reasons – is a regular occurrence, particularly during longer tournaments and across the gruelling clay and hard court swings. At most bookmakers, a retirement voids the bet regardless of which player retires.
bet365’s approach is more punter-friendly. If your player is winning when the opponent retires, the outcome is exactly what you backed – your player winning the match. Being paid out rather than voided is a meaningful improvement, particularly on bigger tournaments where match retirements are more common in later rounds.
The offer is especially relevant during the four Grand Slams – Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open – and the major ATP and WTA hardcourt and clay events where injury rates tend to be higher.
