Key Stats — Everton vs Chelsea

  • Chelsea have scored the fourth highest number of goals in the Premier League this season with 53 in 30 outings, behind only Arsenal, Man City and Manchester United
  • Cole Palmer averages exactly one shot on target per Premier League game this season, with 19 shots on target from 44 total shots in 19 appearances
  • Wesley Fofana has been carded six times in all competitions this season and averages exactly one foul per game in both the Premier League and Champions League
  • Everton have scored and conceded in eight of their last 10 Premier League matches
  • The last meeting between these two ended 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
  • Chelsea have lost their last three matches in all competitions but have won five of their last 10 league outings

Everton Form and Match Preview

Everton have had a decent season, after a very poor couple of campaigns over the last few years. Eighth position is far better than facing relegation, and they’re only five points off top six, and eight off top four.

David Moyes’s side have been a solid, difficult-to-beat unit this season, and their scoring record — 34 goals in the league — reflects a team that creates chances as well as it defends. Eight of their last 10 league matches have seen both teams score, which makes the Hill Dickinson Stadium a lively venue for betting on goal markets. However, a Chelsea side that leads the goals chart outside the traditional top three will be their sternest test for some time, and Everton will need to be at their best to take anything from this one.

Everton Predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Keane, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; Armstrong, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye; Barry

Chelsea Form and Match Preview

Chelsea are amidst a poor run of form, having lost their last three matches in all competitions — two legs against PSG in the Champions League, with a league defeat to Newcastle in between.

Despite that run, the broader league picture remains encouraging for Liam Rosenior’s side. They sit sixth, three points behind Villa in fourth with a superior goal difference, and with the fixtures coming up, there is every chance of closing that gap before the season ends. A team that has scored 53 league goals this season is never far from a big performance, and the motivation of a top four place — and Champions League football next season — should sharpen minds considerably after a bruising week. Cole Palmer, in particular, will be looking to remind everyone of his quality after an unusually quiet couple of outings.

Chelsea Predicted XI: Sanchez; Acheampong, Sarr, Fofana, Cucurella; Caicedo, Santos; Palmer, Fernandez, Garnacho; Pedro

Everton vs Chelsea Bet Builder Tips

Best Bet — Chelsea to Win — 11/10

I think Chelsea will win this one on Saturday. Despite their poor run of form, I think they’ll come out on top here as they will be keen to get back to winning ways and put pressure on the top four. In the league, they’ve lost three, won five and drawn two. Everton have lost three, won four and drawn three of their last 10 league matches. The last time these two met, Chelsea ran out 2-0 victors at Stamford Bridge, and I think there will be a repeat of that this weekend.

At 11/10, Chelsea to win is almost even money for an away side with genuine top four ambitions and the fourth highest scoring record in the league. The head-to-head recent form points their way, the motivation is clear, and a squad packed with attacking quality at every position gives them the tools to end their losing run here. The price reflects the Goodison Park factor, but Chelsea’s goal difference advantage over the teams above them tells its own story about the quality they carry.

Both Teams to Score — 4/6

I think this one will be closer than the 2-0 win for Chelsea the last time these two met. Everton have scored and conceded in eight of their last 10 league matches, scoring 34 and conceding 35 in the league this season. Chelsea have scored the fourth highest amount of goals in the league, behind only Arsenal, Man City and Man United, with 53 goals in 30 league outings. They have conceded 35 in that time. I think this one will be fairly evenly matched, and although I’m backing Chelsea for the win, I think both teams will score.

The data on both sides supports this strongly. Everton scoring in eight of their last 10 league matches confirms they are not a side that simply sits back and defends — they carry a real attacking threat at home, and against a Chelsea side that has conceded 35 league goals this season, they will back themselves to find the net. At 4/6, both teams to score is not a generous price, but with the statistical backing as strong as it is, it earns its place as the cornerstone of this builder.

Cole Palmer Over 0.5 Shots on Target — 3/5

I’m backing Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to have a minimum of one shot on target here. The 23-year-old has bagged 10 goals in all competitions this season, with nine in the Premier League and one in the Champions League. In his 19 league appearances so far, he has had a total of 44 shots, with 19 of them being on target, giving him an average of exactly one shot on target per game, and a shot accuracy of 43%. I think Chelsea will create a good amount of chances on the road this weekend, and I expect Palmer to at least have a shot on target from one of them.

A player who has averaged exactly one shot on target per Premier League appearance this season, across 19 games, is as consistent a bet builder leg as you will find in this market. The 3/5 price reflects that consistency — it is short because it is reliable. With Chelsea needing to attack to get back to winning ways and Palmer as their primary creative outlet, the chances of him going an entire 90 minutes without a single shot on target are very low indeed.

Alternative Bet — Cole Palmer to Score — 2/1

Palmer’s last goal came against Villa in a 4-1 victory earlier this month, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the scoresheet here. Odds of 2/1 for him to score boosts this bet builder to a very strong 25/1 with BetMGM.

Wesley Fofana to Be Booked — 23/10

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana is the man I’m taking for a booking here at odds of 23/10. The Frenchman has picked up six cards in all competitions this season, with four yellows and one red card in the Premier League and one yellow in the Champions League. In his 18 league appearances so far this season, he has made 18 fouls, giving him an average of exactly one foul per game. He’s the same in the Champions League, with six fouls in six matches. I expect that trend to continue here, and if he makes at least one foul, there’s a decent chance he will pick up a yellow card.

The consistency of his foul rate across both competitions is the key stat here — 24 fouls in 24 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League is a metronome-like average that shows no sign of slowing. At Goodison Park, where Everton’s forwards will be physical and aggressive from the off, Fofana will be under pressure early and is the type of defender who commits the kind of clumsy challenge that draws a yellow. At 23/10, this is the selection that drives the combined odds into 16/1 territory and represents genuine value.

Alternative Bet — Cole Palmer to Score Anytime (2/1)

Swapping Cole Palmer over 0.5 shots on target for Cole Palmer to score anytime at 2/1 pushes the combined odds out to 25/1 with BetMGM. With nine Premier League goals this season and Chelsea needing to attack to end their losing run, the anytime scorer market at 2/1 is the natural upgrade for those looking to chase a bigger return from this fixture.
