Our Chelsea vs Brighton bet builder tips, predictions and best bets come from a fixture where both midfields are half missing.
Pascal Gross has hit the target in five of his last six and is 2/1. Chelsea kept no clean sheets in twenty. Brighton saw both teams score in seven of theirs, the lowest rate we have measured.

P. Gross 1+ Shot on Target — 5 of His Last 6, 2/1
1, 0, 1, 1, 2 and 1 in his last six, from 1,797 minutes — the largest sample on this page and the only full season behind any player certain to start. Five of six is 83% against an implied 33%.
That is the widest gap between a record and a price we have found on any fixture this season, and the caveat runs the unusual way round. His season rate is 0.5 shots on target per 90, which puts one or more at about 39%. Ten on target across the whole sample against six in the last six matches is a genuine uptick rather than a steady record.
Both readings beat the price, which is what makes it backable — 39% and 83% are a long way apart but the market is below both. Usually the trap runs the other way, with a flattering season average and a poor run. Our shots on target prop bets page is built on spotting the difference.
J. Pedro 2+ Fouls — 3 of His Last 6, 13/8
1, 2, 1, 3, 0 and 2 in his last six, at 1.36 per 90 across 1,391 minutes. Three of six is 50% against an implied 38%, and he has fouled in five of the six so the floor is one.
He is also one of the few Chelsea players in our tables who is certain to start. Moisés Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernández all carry September return dates, Wesley Fofana is suspended and Jordan Henderson is out.
Brighton hold 59.1% of the ball, the higher figure of the two, and enter the final third 61.35 times a game against Chelsea’s 49.90. A forward pressing against a side that keeps the ball is where a striker’s foul count comes from, and Chelsea commit 10.45 a game as a team — the lower figure, which is the argument against.
M. Wieffer to be Carded — 0.38 per 90, 12/5
4 yellows in 939 minutes at 0.38 per 90, which puts him around 32% against an implied 29%.
That is level rather than value, and it is in the build for the price rather than the edge. Every card line on this fixture is priced accurately, which has not happened on any other page we have covered — Caicedo at 5/2, Ayari at 10/3 and Kostoulas at 10/3 all sit within a point or two of their records.
Wieffer is here because he is named in the expected eleven and holds the best rate among those who are. Wesley Fofana carries 0.48 per 90 and would be genuine value at 9/4, but the feed has him suspended while the line-up starts him — until that is settled he is not backable.
The fixture supports a card even where no individual price does. Chelsea take 2.50 cards a game to Brighton’s 1.75 and their matches averaged 4.50 to Brighton’s 3.60. Michael Oliver’s published 3.49 is a career figure across 546 matches, and every official we have measured is understated by 0.7 to 1.9 at that level — our card tips are normally priced off the real rate and it has not been confirmed here.
How the Three Fit Together
Three legs at 2/1, 13/8 and 2/1, which compounds to around 20/1.
They spread across three markets and three players, and none depends on the scoreline. Gross needs Brighton attacking, João Pedro needs Chelsea pressing, and Wieffer needs the match to be scrappy — which on a fixture with eleven players unavailable is a reasonable thing to expect.
There is no fourth. Danny Welbeck at one shot on target is level at 4/11 and his record is a Brighton one anyway, Diego Gómez at two fouls implies 52% against a record of one in six, and Cole Palmer is a doubt at 2/7. Our bet builder tips page sets out why we would rather publish three than pad a fourth.
Chelsea vs Brighton Prediction
We are predicting 1-1. The market makes it 49.4% Chelsea, 25.5% the draw and 25.1% Brighton, and that is the figure we are publishing.
Our model disagrees sharply and the reason is familiar. Run on the records it gives Brighton 42%, the draw 26% and Chelsea 32%, from expected goals of 1.17 and 1.39. That reading rests on Chelsea’s home record — nine goals scored and seventeen conceded across nine matches at Stamford Bridge, against 21 and 23 in eleven away.
A seventeen-point gap on the away side is the fourth this season caused by a venue split. Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Manchester United were the others, and in every case a home or away figure from fewer than a dozen matches carried as much weight in the model as a whole season. The market is the better estimate. Compare UK bookmakers before you place it.
