2:20 York — Sky Bet Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) 1m

Tip: PACIFIC MISSION

Pacific Mission could be the one to land a tricky opening TV contest as Andrew Balding’s charge eases back in class.

The Lope De Vega filly built on a promising debut at Ascot last July to score readily at Kempton next time, and sent to Doncaster for the Group 2 May Hill Stakes she was beaten less than one length by Aylin. That form looks solid, and she again found only one too good on her final start in the Juvenile Fillies’ Turf at the Breeders’ Cup.

She is at a fitness disadvantage here as all her rivals have the benefit of a run, but she is the highest rated in the field and would be giving upwards of 8lbs to the field if this were a handicap. Her top yard continues in good form, and if she’s fully wound up ahead of her reappearance, then she can make a winning return to action.

2:40 Newbury — Titan Wealth Handicap (Class 3) 1m2f

Tip: CELEBORN

Celeborn hasn’t been seen in over a year, but George Boughey’s charge was a winner on his last run, and with that form working out well it may be worth chancing the Postponed gelding’s fitness.

He raced only three times during the 2024 season, scoring on his debut and then making the frame in successive runs at Salisbury and Newmarket, after which he was absent for almost seven months before scoring at Epsom on his sole start last campaign. That race has thrown up several winners and he ran out a cosy victor over Bulletin — a victory for which he was hiked 9lbs.

He has shown he can run well when fresh, and he can make his presence felt in a competitive handicap contest.

2:55 York — Macmillan Charity Raceday Handicap (Class 2) 1m2½f

Tip: HAVE SECRET (E/W)

There’s likely to be no shortage of pace to this contest and a chance is taken that Have Secret can continue his good spell having won last time out.

Richard Fahey’s charge won twice during a busy campaign last term, scoring at Ripon and Redcar over this trip, and he finished third in this race twelve months ago — albeit from a lower mark. The Havana Gold gelding has run well on both starts this year, most recently beating Insanity readily at Pontefract last month, scoring by just over two lengths.

That form has taken a couple of knocks and he finds himself on a career-high mark, but assuming he can continue in similar form to last time then he can remain competitive. Every chance he’ll give another good account in this competitive handicap.

3:30 York — Marygate Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) 5f

Tip: PRINCESS D’ORANGE

Princess D’Orange made a good first impression when readily beating Donna Rumma on her racecourse debut, and there could be significant improvement to come from David O’Meara’s charge with that experience under her belt.

The Ardad filly made all that day, coming clear to score in decisive fashion by four lengths, and both the runner-up and third have given small boosts to that form. This is tougher, but she looks the type to progress and she can handle this step up in class to double her tally and maintain her perfect record.

4:05 York — Yorkshire Cup (Group 2) 1m6f

Tip: RAHIEBB

Rahiebb hasn’t won since his debut at Newcastle last March, but Roger Varian’s charge posted a number of solid efforts in defeat and can make a winning return to action.

The Frankel colt only once finished out of the places last term, when fourth at Goodwood on his penultimate start. That lesser effort was sandwiched between him finishing a close third behind Carmers at Royal Ascot, and more recently, when denied a neck by Scandinavia in the St Leger.

Fast ground will present no issue, and if fully fit ahead of this reappearance, he ought to go close given he remains unexposed as a stayer.

4:40 York — Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap (Class 3) 5f

Tip: OLD IS GOLD

Old Is Gold might be worth chancing in the TV finale, having run better than the bare result on his reappearance at Sandown last month, where Andrew Balding’s charge might have needed the run.

A Beverley winner last term, the Mehmas gelding finished eighth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and chased home Ardisia at Goodwood. The run might have come too soon here on his final start of the season when down the field behind Ruby’s Angel.

He didn’t help his chances at Sandown on his return by missing the break, so he’ll have to get away better this time if he’s to have any chance. This is a slight ease in grade and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb, so if he builds on his return, then he can post a big performance.
