Liverpool vs Barnsley Predictions and 9/1 Bet Builder Tip

League one side Barnsley travel to take on Liverpool at Anfield on Monday evening in the third round of the FA Cup. The Tykes are 17^th in League One, while Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 matches in all competitions, with their last defeat coming against PSV back at the end of November.

Barnsley are winless in four and have won only three of their last 10 in all competitions, including a 1-0 win over Peterborough United in the last round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool are unbeaten in 10, and despite half of those being a draw, I think they will overcome Barnsley comfortably at Anfield this Monday evening. The Tykes are struggling in League One, down in 17^th in the league, and have won eight of 21 league matches this season, drawing five and losing eight. I expect Arne Slot to rotate his team, giving a chance to some of the more fringe players, but I still think they’ll have far too much for Barnsley, and they’ll progress to the next round of the cup.

Over 3.5 goals in the match (8/11)

I think Barnsley could be on the receiving end of a hammering in this one. We’ve already seen a couple of demolitions of lower league clubs in this round, as Man City thumped Exeter City 10-1, Wolves defeated Shrewsbury Town 6-1, and Chelsea ran out 5-1 winners against Charlton Athletic. I think there might be a similar outcome this weekend, and I think 8/11 is decent odds for there to be over 3.5 goals in the match.

ALTERNATIVE BET – Over 4.5 goals in the match @ 17/10

If you do fancy a high-scoring game, taking over 4.5 goals increases the odds of this selection significantly to 17/10, and the overall bet to 10/1. Given some of the other results in this round, I wouldn’t be surprised to see another game with plenty of goals.

Federico Chiesa over 0.5 shots on target (8/15)

Federico Chiesa hasn’t been a constant for Arne Slot’s Liverpool, but I do think he will feature in this cup fixture. He has featured 15 times in the Premier League, twice in the Carabao Cup and three times in the Champions League. In those 20 appearances, he has had six shots on target. However, I think Liverpool will create a lot of chances here against a struggling League One side, and I think Chiesa will manage at least one on target. Rumours are circulating that he could return to Juventus this month, so if that’s the case, he will want to leave Anfield on a high. I think 8/15 is good odds for this selection.

Josh Earl to be carded (4/1)

I’m backing Liverpool supporting Barnsley defender Josh Earl to be carded at good odds of 4/1. From Southport, Earl moved away from Merseyside at an early age to begin his career at Preston, but he and his family are lifelong Liverpool fans. He has been carded four times in League One for Barnsley this season, making 18 fouls in 15 appearances, an average of more than one per game. It’ll be backs to the wall for him in this one, and I expect him to name several fouls. 4/1 is excellent odds for him to be carded, especially in such a big occasion for the player, where he might become complacent.
