What Is a Lucky 15 Bet?
A Lucky 15 is a multiple bet covering 4 selections across 15 separate bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator. Because it includes singles, you only need one winner to get a return – unlike a standard accumulator where all selections must win.
The 15 bets that make up a Lucky 15:
- 4 singles – one bet on each individual selection
- 6 doubles – every possible combination of 2 selections from 4
- 4 trebles – every possible combination of 3 selections from 4
- 1 fourfold accumulator – all 4 selections combined
A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15 in total – your unit stake multiplied by 15. An each-way Lucky 15 doubles this to 30 bets and a £30 total stake at £1 per bet.
How to Use the Lucky 15 Calculator
- Enter your stake – this is the amount per bet, not the total. A 50p stake = £7.50 total (15 x 50p)
- Choose your odds format – fractional (e.g. 4/1) or decimal (e.g. 5.0)
- Enter the odds for each of your four selections
- Select the result for each horse – Won, Placed, Lost or Non-runner
- Tick each way if you placed an each-way Lucky 15 and select your place terms
- Select a bonus if your bookmaker offers a one-winner bonus (Betfred pay triple odds if only one selection wins)
The calculator updates automatically as you enter your selections.

Betfred offer the best Lucky 15 bonus on the market – if only one of your four selections wins, they pay triple the odds on that winner. They also pay double odds on a Lucky 31 with one winner and quadruple on a Lucky 63. See our Betfred Lucky 15 bonus guide for full details.
Lucky 15 Calculator – Worked Example
Say you place a £1 Lucky 15 on four horse racing selections:
| Horse | Odds | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Horse 1 | 4/1 | Won |
| Horse 2 | 6/1 | Won |
| Horse 3 | 3/1 | Lost |
| Horse 4 | 5/1 | Lost |
With two winners the calculator works through every combination:
- Singles: Horse 1 returns £5, Horse 2 returns £7. Total: £12
- Doubles: Only one winning double (H1 + H2). 5 x 7 = £35
- Trebles: No winning trebles (need 3 winners)
- Fourfold: No winning fourfold (need all 4 winners)
Total return: £47. Total stake: £15. Profit: £32.
With a standard accumulator on the same four selections, two losers would have meant a total loss of your stake. The Lucky 15 structure means you still profit from two winners.
Lucky 15 Each Way
An each-way Lucky 15 doubles your bets to 30 – 15 win bets and 15 place bets. This means your total stake doubles too: a £1 each-way Lucky 15 costs £30.
The advantage is that a horse that places rather than wins still generates a return on your place bets. This is particularly valuable in big-field races where your selection might finish second or third at a decent price.
Most bookmakers pay 1/4 the win odds for place bets in standard conditions. Some races offer 1/5 terms (typically smaller fields) and some offer 1/3 (very large fields). Select the correct place terms in the calculator to get an accurate return.
See our each-way betting guide for a full explanation of how each-way bets work.
Lucky 15 Non-Runners
If one of your four Lucky 15 selections is declared a non-runner, the bets involving that selection are void. The remaining bets are recalculated:
- A Lucky 15 with one non-runner becomes an 11-bet combination across the three remaining selections (3 singles, 3 doubles, 1 treble)
- A Lucky 15 with two non-runners becomes a 7-bet combination across two selections (2 singles, 1 double)
The calculator handles non-runners automatically – simply select Non-runner from the result dropdown and the return is recalculated accordingly.
If you are placing ante-post Lucky 15 bets, always use a bookmaker offering Non-Runner No Bet to protect your stake. See our Non-Runner No Bet guide for full details.
Lucky 15 FAQs
How much does a Lucky 15 cost? A Lucky 15 costs 15 times your unit stake. A 50p Lucky 15 costs £7.50, a £1 Lucky 15 costs £15, a £2 Lucky 15 costs £30. An each-way Lucky 15 doubles the cost.
How many selections are in a Lucky 15? A Lucky 15 covers 4 selections across 15 bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 fourfold accumulator.
Do you need all 4 horses to win a Lucky 15? No. Because a Lucky 15 includes singles, you get a return with just one winner. Two or more winners increases your return significantly through the doubles, trebles and fourfold bets.
What is the difference between a Lucky 15 and an accumulator? A 4-fold accumulator is a single bet requiring all four selections to win. A Lucky 15 includes 15 separate bets including singles, so you get a return from one or more winners. The trade-off is cost – a Lucky 15 costs 15 times more than a single accumulator at the same unit stake.
What is the Betfred Lucky 15 bonus? Betfred pay triple the odds if only one of your four Lucky 15 selections wins. This is the best one-winner bonus available and makes Betfred the most popular bookmaker for Lucky 15 bets. See our Betfred Lucky 15 bonus guide for full details.
Can you place a Lucky 15 each way? Yes. An each-way Lucky 15 doubles your bets to 30, covering both win and place markets for each combination. It costs double the standard Lucky 15 stake.
What sports can you place a Lucky 15 on? Lucky 15 bets are most commonly used for horse racing, but can be placed on any sport where four individual selections can be combined. Football, greyhound racing and golf are also popular for Lucky 15 bets.
What happens to a Lucky 15 if a horse is a non-runner? Bets involving the non-runner are void. The remaining selections continue as a reduced multiple – three selections become an 11-bet combination, two selections become a 7-bet combination.
