Premier League Final Day Predictions: Merson, Sutton & Jones Knows Verdicts for Sunday
The 2025-26 Premier League season ends on Sunday 24 May with all ten fixtures kicking off simultaneously at 4pm BST. Arsenal have already won the title, the third relegation place is a straight fight between Tottenham and West Ham, and European qualification runs all the way down to eighth.
We have gathered final-day score predictions from three of the most-read football pundits — Sky Sports’ Paul Merson, BBC Sport’s Chris Sutton, and Sky Sports’ Jones Knows — alongside our own Thatsagoal verdict. Below is every fixture compared, pundit by pundit.
For the welcome offers to use on Sunday, see our Premier League final day free bets guide. For the full relegation picture, see our Spurs v West Ham relegation battle preview.
Premier League Final Day Predictions — All Four Verdicts at a Glance
| Fixture | Merson | Sutton | Jones Knows | Thatsagoal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brighton v Man Utd | 2-1 | 2-1 | 3-2 | 2-2 |
| Burnley v Wolves | 2-2 | 1-0 | 1-2 | 2-1 |
| Crystal Palace v Arsenal | 1-2 | 0-1 | 1-1 | 1-1 |
| Fulham v Newcastle | 2-2 | 1-1 | 0-2 | 1-2 |
| Liverpool v Brentford | 3-1 | 2-2 | 2-2 | 3-2 |
| Man City v Aston Villa | 3-0 | 4-2 | 4-1 | 2-0 |
| Nottm Forest v Bournemouth | 1-1 | 1-2 | 2-3 | 1-2 |
| Sunderland v Chelsea | 2-2 | 1-1 | 2-1 | 1-0 |
| Tottenham v Everton | 1-1 | 1-2 | 0-1 | 0-2 |
| West Ham v Leeds | 2-1 | 1-1 | 3-1 | 2-1 |
All four tipsters back Brighton in the European race, and there is a clear split on the relegation fixtures — more on that below.
Brighton v Manchester United
Paul Merson backs Brighton to win, expecting them to have far more to play for than a Manchester United side that has already sealed third place. With the World Cup approaching, he doubts United players will risk injury. Merson predicts 2-1.
Chris Sutton agrees on the result. He notes Brighton can secure seventh and European football, even sixth if Bournemouth slip up, and tips Danny Welbeck to score the winner — while expecting Bruno Fernandes to grab the assist he needs for the Premier League single-season record. Sutton predicts 2-1.
Jones Knows expects a goal-heavy game in keeping with final-day history, and is more interested in a tournament-wide special — the final day to produce 36 or more goals at 3/1. He predicts 3-2.
Thatsagoal verdict: Both sides have something to play for — Brighton’s European push, United’s individual records — but rotation and final-day looseness point to goals at both ends. We go 2-2.
Burnley v Wolves
Paul Merson expects an entertaining clash between two already-relegated sides, with neither wanting to finish bottom. He was impressed by Wolves’ recent draw at Fulham but feels Burnley can hold onto 19th. Merson predicts 2-2.
Chris Sutton points out that since Wolves beat Liverpool on 3 March, the two clubs have not won a single game between them across 16 matches. Wolves have not won away all season. With a predictions title to chase, Sutton takes a risk on Burnley to edge it 1-0.
Jones Knows admits the game won’t trouble the Super Sunday producers, but has a personal stake — a Burnley to finish bottom ticket at 3/1. He predicts a 1-2 Wolves win.
Thatsagoal verdict: Both sides will want to sign off with a performance in front of their fans. Burnley’s slightly stronger recent showings, including against Arsenal, just tip it. We go 2-1.
Crystal Palace v Arsenal
Paul Merson sees genuine exhibition-match vibes, with Arsenal still celebrating the title and Palace resting players for their Europa Conference League final. He expects reserves against reserves but still backs the champions. Merson predicts 1-2.
Chris Sutton agrees both sides will rotate heavily before their European finals, and that some Arsenal players may carry title-celebration hangovers. He still backs Arsenal — by their favourite 1-0 scoreline that delivered their past three wins. Sutton predicts 0-1.
Jones Knows expects the same low-intensity, low-stakes affair and focuses on the cards market, noting the final day historically produces fewer cards than any other round. He predicts 1-1.
Thatsagoal verdict: With both managers prioritising their European finals, this has draw written all over it. Two heavily rotated sides, nothing tangible at stake. We go 1-1.
Fulham v Newcastle
Paul Merson expects goals, with both teams free to play their natural game and Newcastle motivated to finish above Sunderland. He predicts 2-2.
Chris Sutton calls it a tough one to call, with the two sides level on points in mid-table. He notes Newcastle have beaten Fulham twice this season but both via last-gasp goals, and expects Marco Silva’s side to get something. Sutton predicts 1-1.
Jones Knows warns that backing Fulham at this stage of the season is dangerous, citing their poor April and May record under Silva and “on the beach” syndrome. He backs Newcastle for the away win. Jones Knows predicts 0-2.
Thatsagoal verdict: Newcastle have the stronger motivation with the local bragging rights over Sunderland on the line, and Fulham have tailed off. We lean to a Newcastle win, 1-2.
Liverpool v Brentford
Paul Merson expects Liverpool to put on a show at Anfield to finish the season on a high, and thinks Mohamed Salah will be dropped to the bench after his social media comments. Merson predicts 3-1.
Chris Sutton leads on Salah’s “ridiculous attack” on Arne Slot’s playing style, saying it leaves a sour taste. He rates Brentford, who won the reverse fixture in October, and wouldn’t be surprised by an away win — but expects Liverpool to get the point they need for fifth. Sutton predicts 2-2.
Jones Knows expects a basketball-style shootout that suits Brentford, noting Liverpool have conceded 55 league goals — their most in a 38-game season. He likes Dango Ouattara in the goalscorer markets at 3/1. Jones Knows predicts 2-2.
Thatsagoal verdict: Anfield farewell atmosphere plus Liverpool’s attacking quality should mean goals, but their defensive frailties give Brentford chances too. We go 3-2.
Manchester City v Aston Villa
Paul Merson expects a comfortable City win in Pep Guardiola’s final game, with Aston Villa still celebrating their Europa League triumph and unlikely to take the game seriously. Merson predicts 3-0.
Chris Sutton also expects Guardiola to go out on a high against a Villa side likely still celebrating. He notes City have won two cups this season despite missing the title. Sutton predicts 4-2.
Jones Knows expects an emotion-dominated afternoon at the Etihad and a subdued game state, which is why he likes the under 1.5 cards market at 9/5. He predicts 4-1.
Thatsagoal verdict: City should win comfortably against a Villa side fresh from open-top bus celebrations, but a celebratory Etihad send-off doesn’t always mean a goal glut. We go 2-0.
Nottingham Forest v Bournemouth
Paul Merson expects Bournemouth to settle for a draw unless results elsewhere demand more, with their European hopes hinging on other games. He predicts 1-1.
Chris Sutton says there will be no last-day drama for a Forest side that has done well to survive under four managers. He expects Andoni Iraola to win his final game in charge of Bournemouth. Sutton predicts 1-2.
Jones Knows believes Bournemouth could complete one of the stories of the season and expects them to embrace the occasion. He likes Junior Kroupi to score anytime at 11/8, noting only Lamine Yamal has more teenage goals across Europe’s major leagues. Jones Knows predicts 2-3.
Thatsagoal verdict: Bournemouth’s midweek display against Manchester City showed their quality, and Iraola will want a winning send-off. We go 1-2 to the Cherries.
Sunderland v Chelsea
Paul Merson frames this around the European subplot — Sunderland would leapfrog Chelsea with a win. He believes Conference League football would benefit Chelsea’s young players and predicts an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Chris Sutton notes Sunderland would finish above Chelsea with a win, securing a top-10 finish and possibly Europe. He acknowledges Chelsea’s good midweek win over Tottenham but expects a close game. Sutton predicts 1-1.
Jones Knows highlights that neither side can afford caution, which should create stretched, transitional football. He likes Noah Sadiki for two or more shots at 7/2. Jones Knows predicts 2-1.
Thatsagoal verdict: Sunderland’s fearless home form has carried them all season and the Stadium of Light will be bouncing. With a top-10 finish and bragging rights over Newcastle on the line, we back the hosts 1-0.
Tottenham v Everton
Paul Merson calls this a hard game to predict, expecting a nervy atmosphere and an Everton side that plays without fear. He backs Spurs to hang on for the draw they need to survive. Merson predicts 1-1.
Chris Sutton asks whether David Moyes can save his old club West Ham by beating Spurs with Everton. He notes only Burnley have a worse home record than Spurs this season, and talks himself into an Everton win. Sutton predicts 1-2.
Jones Knows frames Spurs as a draw away from safety and relishes the Moyes irony. He thinks Spurs are far too short at odds-on and backs Everton to win at 29/10. Jones Knows predicts 0-1.
Thatsagoal verdict: Spurs have been wretched at home all season and the final-day nerves could be paralysing. Everton arrive with freedom to play. We go 0-2 to Everton — which would throw the relegation picture wide open.
West Ham v Leeds
Paul Merson backs West Ham to win the game they must win, stressing they have to score first to pile pressure on Spurs. But he believes Tottenham will get the draw they need, so fears it could still be over for West Ham. Merson predicts 2-1.
Chris Sutton can’t see West Ham getting the win they need, citing damning comments from Mateus Fernandes about a lack of fight and admiring Leeds boss Daniel Farke. Sutton predicts 1-1 — a result that would relegate West Ham.
Jones Knows thinks the market underestimates West Ham at 5/1 to survive. He rates their attacking quality through Bowen, Summerville and Castellanos, and their home xG numbers. Jones Knows predicts 3-1.
Thatsagoal verdict: West Ham have the attacking quality to beat a Leeds side with nothing left to play for, and the London Stadium will demand it. We go 2-1 — but as our relegation analysis explains, a West Ham win only matters if Spurs also lose.
Where the Pundits Agree and Disagree
A few clear patterns emerge across the four verdicts:
All four back an Arsenal win at Crystal Palace, though Jones Knows and Thatsagoal both expect a draw rather than a Gunners victory — three of the four see either a draw or a one-goal Arsenal win, reflecting the expected exhibition-match nature of the game.
All four back Brighton against Manchester United, agreeing the Seagulls’ European motivation outweighs a United side with little left to play for.
The relegation fixtures split the room. On Tottenham v Everton, Merson backs a Spurs-saving draw while Sutton, Jones Knows and Thatsagoal all back an Everton win. On West Ham v Leeds, three of the four back a West Ham win — but as every pundit notes, a West Ham win only sends Spurs down if Tottenham also lose. The one combination that relegates Spurs is a Spurs defeat plus a West Ham win, and the predictions above show how finely balanced Sunday could be.
Manchester City to win is unanimous, though the margin varies wildly — from a tight Thatsagoal 2-0 to a Jones Knows 4-1 and a Sutton 4-2.

Who gives the best football pundits’ predictions?
All of the pundits can be very hit and miss because the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two are all very difficult leagues to predict; however, David Prutton seems to do a very good job with his EFL predictions for today’s matches. When you look at his Championship predictions from last season, he was quite accurate in that the table wouldn’t have looked much different if all his selections had been correct. The big difference would have been that Leeds United should have won the title.
Lawro and Michael Owen both get a lot of stick for their predictions and it is easy to see why, but every few weeks you will see one of them pull some fantastic results out of nowhere. Paul Merson is also known to do well in general, but with Merson’s predictions, you always need to watch out for a howler. Like when all three of his FA Cup winner predictions were eliminated in the third round.
