It’s a chance for Thomas Tuchel to get a good look at the players at his disposal this week, as Uruguay travel to face the Three Lions at Wembley. It’s the first of three World Cup warm-up matches, before their opening game against Croatia on 17 June.
England won their qualifying group at a canter, with eight wins from eight games, leaving them 10 points ahead of Albania, who finished second. They have won nine of their last 10 fixtures, losing only once since October 2024.
Uruguay finished fourth out of 10 in World Cup qualifying, with seven wins, seven draws and four defeats from 18 matches played. They finished 10 points behind the table toppers Argentina.
Key Stats — England vs Uruguay

England Form and Match Preview
England won their qualifying group at a canter, with eight wins from eight games, leaving them 10 points ahead of Albania, who finished second. They have won nine of their last 10 fixtures, losing only once since October 2024.
Thomas Tuchel will use this friendly to assess his options ahead of the World Cup, and with England having won nine of their last 10, the confidence and depth in the squad is clear. Wembley on a Friday night with a World Cup on the horizon creates exactly the kind of atmosphere that brings the best out of England at home, and even with potential rotation, they carry more than enough quality to see off a Uruguay side who won only four of their last 10 across all competitions.
Uruguay Form and Match Preview
Uruguay finished fourth out of 10 in World Cup qualifying, with seven wins, seven draws and four defeats from 18 matches played. They finished 10 points behind table toppers Argentina.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side arrive at Wembley having qualified for the World Cup but in mixed form, winning only four of their last 10 across all competitions, including friendlies. A trip to Wembley to face an England side in excellent form is a tough assignment at any time, and with this being primarily a scouting exercise for Tuchel, Uruguay may find England are sharper and more motivated than a typical friendly occasion might suggest.
England vs Uruguay Betting Tips
Best Bet Builder Tip — England to Win — 1/2
It’s always difficult to pick a winner in friendly matches, and both sides might rotate their starting 11. However, with this being a home match for Thomas Tuchel’s side, I expect England to win. With only one defeat in 10, I think a home win is fairly likely. Uruguay have won only four matches of their 10 in all competitions – including friendlies – and I don’t think they’ll have enough quality to get anything out of England on Friday night.
Marcus Rashford Over 0.5 Shots on Target — 4/7
Marcus Rashford is good odds to have at least one shot on target in this friendly match. He has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Barcelona so far this season, and also scored once in seven World Cup qualifying matches for England. In the league, he has had 20 shots on target, with 33 in 39 in all competitions for Barca. He has had five shots on target in his seven appearances for England in qualifying. This one might not be an extremely high-tempo game, but I think Rashford is good odds to have at least one shot on target.
Jarrod Bowen Over 0.5 Shots on Target — 3/4
Jarrod Bowen is the second England player I think will have a minimum of one shot on target here. He hasn’t featured heavily for England, but is the absolute standout in a poor season for West Ham United this season. He has scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Hammers this season, with eight in the league and two in the FA Cup. In his five appearances in World Cup qualifying, the 29-year-old had just one shot on target. I think he will start this match however, and given his impressive season in the Prem, 3/4 is good odds for him to have one or more shots on target.
Manuel Ugarte to Be Booked — 3/1
Manuel Ugarte is a player many of us know well, and we know he’s partial to a booking or two. He’s a very physical presence in midfield, and although he has only picked up one booking for United in 21 league appearances this season, he has made a total of 22 fouls, an average of more than one per game. Last season, he was booked on 15 occasions for the Red Devils in all competitions. It’ll be a tough night for him here against an incredible England midfield, and although it’s a friendly, I think he could pick up a booking.
Alternative Bet — Manuel Ugarte Over 1.5 Fouls (1/3)
It’s far shorter odds, and reduces the overall odds of the bet builder to 16/5, but it’s also a much safer bet to back fouls over cards. Given it’s a friendly, the referee might be a little less strict when it comes to handing out cautions. Ugarte should make a couple of fouls, so it’s a safe alternative bet to back him to have over 1.5 here.
