A bet builder — or “same-game multi” — combines several outcomes from a single football match into one bet. Most UK bookmakers introduced the feature between 2017 and 2020, and it’s now one of the most popular betting products in the country.
A typical bet builder for Liverpool vs Manchester City might look like:

- Over 2.5 goals

How Are Bet Builder Odds Calculated?

Bet Builder Strategy: What Separates a Good Builder From a Lottery Ticket
The temptation is to stack legs for the headline price — a 50/1 bet builder gets attention, a 5/1 one doesn’t. That’s exactly the wrong way to approach the format. Better bet builders follow a few principles.
1. Correlation matters. Combine selections that rely on the same scenario playing out. Liverpool to win at home, both teams to score, and Wirtz to score all rely on the same broad story — attacking football, goals, a leaky visiting defence. They reinforce each other. Combining “Liverpool to win” with “0-0 at half-time” and “no cards”, by contrast, pulls in three different directions — each leg makes the others harder.
2. Three to five legs is the sweet spot. More legs mean a longer price but exponentially more chances for something to go wrong. A 4-leg builder where each leg is 70% likely has a combined probability of about 24% (0.7⁴). A 6-leg builder at the same per-leg likelihood drops to about 12%. Doubling the legs roughly halves your chance of winning — and the price doesn’t always double to compensate, because the bookmaker’s margin compounds with each leg.
3. Avoid the lottery-ticket trap. A 12-leg builder at 500/1 is tempting, but in expected-value terms it’s almost always worse than a 3-leg builder at 6/1. Long-shot builders are entertainment, not investment.
