ITV Racing brings the second day of the Guineas Festival into living rooms on Saturday 2nd May — the day of the Group 1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Flat HQ delivers four races live, including the Rowley Mile feature, alongside two from Goodwood and one from Thirsk. Below: our expert race-by-race tips for every ITV Racing fixture this Saturday afternoon.

1:30 Goodwood – Chelmer Stakes (Listed) (3yo Fillies) Cl1 6f
Tip: Fitzella (9/4)
The opener comes from Goodwood, and it’s the Chelmer Stakes, a listed race for the 3-year-old fillies over 6 furlongs.
I like FITZELLA in here returning to sprinting, after a fine reappearance effort in the Nell Gwyn. That 7f trip definitely stretched her, and now dropping in class and trip with that return under her belt, I think she’ll take a lot of beating.
1:45 Newmarket – Handicap 6f
Tip: Addison Grey (13/2) EW
The first race from HQ is a trappy handicap over 6f.
I’d be happy to take on Double Rush with an each-way alternative in here. The one for me is ADDISON GREY EW from the Clive Cox yard. A solid three-year-old campaign last year, he always looked the type to improve as he got older. That suggestion was backed up with a fine reappearance effort at Newbury last month, where, despite a slow start, he cut through the pack to hit the front close to home before just being touched off. That was a highly encouraging effort return, and if he’s a little sharper now, as I’d expect, I think he can run another big race for Rossa Ryan.
2:05 Goodwood – Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) Cl1 1m
Tip: Blue Bolt (5/4)
The 2:05 from Goodwood is the Conqueror Fillies Stakes, another listed event, this time over the mile.
You’d expect BLUE BOLT to be tough to beat at this level on her return. She was a really progressive three-year-old last season, winning at this level earlier in the campaign before finishing a fine second in Group 1 company on her final start when chasing home the reliable Fallen Angel at Newmarket. She sets a high standard, and if she’s ready to go, she’ll be very difficult to beat.
2:20 Newmarket – Suffolk Handicap 1m1f
Tip: Bullet Point (11/2)
We head back to Newmarket for the Suffolk Handicap over 1m1f at 2:20.
I can see BULLET POINT bouncing back here after being freshened up. He was a progressive handicap last season, winning well here at Newmarket and then again at the York Ebor meeting in competitive handicaps. I’m happy to excuse his last two efforts as he’d been on the go and looked ready for a break. I think he can excel this season. He likes to sit handy, which is a good spot here at Newmarket on quick ground.
2:40 Thirsk – Thirsk Hunt Cup 1m
Tip: Bellarchi (EW)
The one race from Thirsk on ITV is the Thirsk Hunt Cup over the mile trip.
I’m finding it hard to get away from BELLARCHI EW who comes into this race fully fit and clearly thriving. He often runs his best races at Musselburgh which has seen him win on both his last two starts. However, he has run well at Thirsk in the past too and off a 4lb higher mark than the last of those victories which was a career-best effort, I see no reason why he can’t go close again given his current mood.
2:55 Newmarket – Palace House Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 5f
Tip: Rumstar (6/1) NAP
The 2:55 from Newmarket is the Group 3 Pool Palace House Stakes for the 5f sprinters.
I think this may be the time to catch RUMSTAR NAP, who returns with his yard in flying form. He won this race last year, making it 2-2 over this 5f course, and you’d imagine this was a decent early-season target for him, whilst a lot of his rivals will be using this as a stepping stone. The stiff 5f is perfect for him, and he’s the nap for today.
3:35 Newmarket – 2000 Guineas (Group 1) Cl1 3yo 1m
Tip: King’s Trail (11/1) EW
The feature ends the coverage on ITV, the Group 1 2000 Guineas over the famous Rowley Mile.
I’ve landed on KING’S TRAIL EW. The son of Sea Of Stars looks the part on paper, and he comes into this following the same path and Notable Speech, having won two races on the AW at Kempton. The fact that he is the second string doesn’t bother me, as it will have been a hard decision for Buick, and James Doyle has won this race before on a supposed second string. I think the nature of this test will suit King’s Trail well, as he’ll sit midfield and come through. I think his victory at Kempton last time out will have taught him a lot, and he’s a horse that could have that star quality required.
