Spurs betting tips

Spurs welcome Atletico Madrid to North London on Wednesday evening as they face the extremely tall task of overcoming a 5-2 defeat from the first leg.

Below you will find our Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid bet builder tips, match predictions and a 40/1 bet builder for Wednesday’s Champions League second leg.

Key Stats – Tottenham v Atletico Madrid

  • Atletico Madrid won the first leg 5-2 — Spurs need to score four without reply to force extra time
  • Atletico have won seven of their last 10 in all competitions, scoring 25 goals in the process
  • Julian Alvarez has scored seven goals in 10 Champions League appearances this season, with 14 shots on target across those games
  • Joao Palhinha has been booked 10 times in all competitions this season, including twice in the Champions League
  • Robin Le Normand has been carded five times this season — twice in the Champions League — and made 21 fouls in 33 appearances
  • Spurs have won only one of their last 10 matches in all competitions and have won just two games in 2026

Tottenham Form and Match Preview

Spurs are on a terrible run of form, with only one win in their last 10 matches in all competitions, losing six and drawing three. They face relegation from the Premier League as they’re currently 16th, just one point above the relegation zone.

The circumstances heading into this second leg could hardly be more difficult for Spurs. Not only do they carry a three-goal aggregate deficit, but the domestic situation also means confidence and morale are at a season low. With relegation still a very real threat, the manager will be weighing whether to risk key players in a tie that is effectively over, ahead of a crucial run of Premier League fixtures. Even if Spurs commit fully, their recent form gives no reason for optimism against a side that dismantled them so convincingly last week.

Atletico Madrid Form and Match Preview

Atletico Madrid are having a decent season and find themselves in third place in the league, albeit nine points behind Real Madrid in second and only two points ahead of Villarreal in fourth.

Diego Simeone’s side travels to London with the tie already firmly in their grasp. Winning 5-2 in the first leg gives them enormous room to manage this second leg, and Atletico — more than almost any other side in European football — are masters of controlling a game when the tie is already won. Expect them to set up compact and disciplined, look to counter-attack through Julian Alvarez and their wide players, and pick off a Spurs side that will need to throw everything forward. The aggregate situation plays directly into Atletico’s defensive strengths.

Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips and Best Bets

  • Atletico Madrid to win (31/20)
  • Julian Alvarez over 0.5 shots on target (4/6)
  • Joao Palhinha to be booked (13/5)
  • Robin Le Normand to be booked (29/10)

Best Bet Builder Tip – Atletico Madrid to Win (31/20)

For a team that just hammered Spurs 5-2 last week, 31/20 is exceptional odds for Atletico to make it two wins from two legs this Wednesday. With Spurs’ dreadful run of form, in which they’ve only won two games in 2026, it’s hard to see where their next result will come from, and I don’t expect them to get anything from an Atletico side who have won seven of their last 10 in all competitions, scoring 25 goals in the process. Spurs are having the season from hell, and I think it’ll get worse with another defeat in this one, following the hammering last week at the hands of their opponents here.

Julian Alvarez Over 0.5 Shots on Target (4/6)

Julian Alvarez scored two against Spurs in that game last week, and I’m backing him to have at least one shot on target on Wednesday in London. He has bagged 16 goals in all competitions this season, with an impressive seven goals in 10 in the Champions League, eight in 28 in La Liga and one in three in the Copa Del Rey. He has had 14 shots on target in the Champions League, giving him an average of just under 1.5 per game. Against a struggling Spurs, I think he will manage a minimum of one shot on target.

At 4/6 this is a short price, but with a Champions League average of 1.5 shots on target per game and the confidence that comes from a first-leg brace, this is about as close to a banker leg as a bet builder offers. Spurs will need to come forward, which will create space on the counter for Alvarez to exploit — exactly the kind of situation in which he is most dangerous.

Alternative Bet – Julian Alvarez to Score (19/10)

For a player who bagged two in the first leg, 19/10 is fantastic odds for him to score again. His side might set up a little more defensively to protect their strong lead, but I still think they’ll create chances. Taking him to score increases the odds of this bet builder to 55/1, and best odds with this selection included can be found with William Hill.

Joao Palhinha to Be Booked (13/5)

Spurs midfielder Joao Palhinha is the first of two players I’m backing to pick up a card in this one. The Brazilian has picked up 10 bookings in all competitions this season, with six in the league, two in the Champions League, and one in each of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. In his eight Champions League appearances so far, he has made eight fouls, giving him an average of one foul per game. I think 13/5 is good odds for him to be carded again here.

The match context amplifies this selection significantly. Spurs needing to score at least three goals means Palhinha will be under enormous pressure to win possession back quickly and repeatedly throughout the game. A midfielder who is already averaging a foul per Champions League game will almost inevitably see that count rise when his side desperately needs to regain the ball in a high-stakes knockout tie. 13/5 is a strong price given his booking record and the pressure he will be under from the first whistle.

Robin Le Normand to Be Booked (29/10)

Robin Le Normand is the second player I think could be carded at strong odds of 29/10. The central defender has been carded five times in all competitions this season, with three in La Liga and two in the Champions League. I expect Spurs to go all-out attack in the slim hope of overturning this three-goal deficit, and Le Normand will be one of the players under pressure from the off. He has made 21 fouls in 33 appearances this season, an average of more than 0.5 per game. He’s not a shoo-in for a booking, but if Spurs come quick out of the traps, he might be forced into a couple of fouls as he looks to defend his side’s lead. 29/10 for him to be booked really boosts the odds of this bet builder to a massive 40/1.

Le Normand is the selection that transforms this from a 10/1 builder into a 40/1 one, and at 29/10 the odds reflect a genuine chance rather than a long shot. Atletico’s defensive structure means their centre-backs are often drawn into physical battles when opponents push men forward — and with Spurs needing to throw bodies at them from the off, Le Normand will be in the thick of it early. His Champions League booking record of two in eight appearances supports the case, and the match context makes this an extremely live selection at nearly 3/1.

Tottenham v Atletico Madrid Predictions Summary

To summarise our Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid betting tips and predictions for Wednesday’s Champions League second leg:

Our best bet is Atletico Madrid to win at 31/20 — exceptional odds for a side that hammered Spurs 5-2 last week and need only avoid a four-goal swing to progress. Our 40/1 bet builder combines an Atletico win, Julian Alvarez over 0.5 shots on target, Joao Palhinha to be booked, and Robin Le Normand to be booked.

For a bigger price, swapping Alvarez over 0.5 shots on target for Alvarez to score at 19/10 pushes the builder out to 55/1 with William Hill — a significant upgrade if you back him to add to his first-leg brace.
