Aston Villa vs Tottenham is the Sunday evening Premier League fixture where the relegation-threatened Spurs travel to Villa Park for a contest with major implications at both ends of the table — and it’s the basis for a 33/1 bet builder at bet365 combining four selections rooted in Spurs’ fight for survival and the goalscoring patterns of both teams.
Unai Emery’s fifth-placed Villa welcome an 18th-placed Tottenham, desperate for points, with both sides on losing runs into the weekend. Here’s the full preview and the bet builder tips.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham Bet Builder Tip
Aston Villa vs Tottenham Match Preview
Spurs are headed to Birmingham this Sunday to take on fifth-placed Aston Villa. Spurs are desperate for the victory, as they currently lie 18th in the league with a real threat of relegation to the Championship.
Villa have had a decent season and find themselves in fifth, level on points with Liverpool in fourth. They can also finish third, as they’re only three behind Manchester United.
Spurs are struggling big time and are scraping for points to see them safe from the drop. They’re two points adrift from West Ham United, and will be desperate to leapfrog their city neighbours this weekend with a win over Villa.
The Tips
BEST BET BUILDER TIP — Spurs to win @ 11/5
This may come as a shock to some, but I fancy Spurs to beat Villa this Sunday at Villa Park. As they scrap for points, I think they’ll find the fight and come out on top. They seem to have somewhat turned a corner, and are unbeaten in their last two matches, with a 2-2 draw with Brighton before a 0-1 away victory against Wolves. Villa have lost their last two, 1-0 away to Fulham in the league, and 1-0 away to Forest in the semi-final of the Europa League. Villa are favourites this weekend and rightly so, but I fancy Spurs to win on the road and take a step towards Premier League safety.
Both teams to score — 8/13
It’ll be a close game, as both teams have plenty to play for, and I think there will be goals for both sides. Villa have scored 47 and conceded 42 in the league so far this season, and Spurs have scored 43 and conceded 53, the fourth most goals conceded in the league. Both teams scored in the reverse fixture back in October, a 1-2 victory for Villa on the road, and I think there’s a high chance that will happen again this weekend, considering both teams have scored in seven of the last 10 for Spurs.
Ollie Watkins over 2.5 shots — 8/13
Ollie Watkins has had a decent goal return this season with 15 goals scored in all competitions, with 11 in the Premier League and four in the Europa League. The England striker will be hoping he’s done enough to make Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad for the summer, which feels likely, but he will still be keen to impress ahead of the end of the season, while pushing Villa towards the highest possible league finish. He has had 70 shots in the league this season in 33 appearances, an average of more than two per game, and I think there’s a good chance he will have three or more on Sunday.
ALTERNATIVE BET — Ollie Watkins over 0.5 shots on target @ 21/50
Swapping over 2.5 shots for over 0.5 shots on target at odds of 21/50 keeps the odds of this bet builder at 33/1 with Bet 365. This is a decent switch, as you’re relying on fewer chances for Watkins, but also reliant on him hitting the target. He’s had 31 shots on target this season, so he averages just under one per game. There’s a good chance he will have one or more against Spurs.
John McGinn to be booked — 7/2
Villa captain John McGinn is my fancy for a card on Sunday. The Scotland international has been carded six times this season – four times in the Premier League and twice in the Europa League. In the league, he has made a total of 30 fouls in 27 appearances, an average of more than one foul per game. Spurs will be right up for this given their situation, and I think it’ll be a real battle in the middle of the park. McGinn never shies away from that, and I expect him to make a couple of fouls. 7/2 is good odds for him to pick up his seventh booking of the season here.
Combined Bet Builder Odds — 33/1 at bet365
Pulling the four selections together gives a 33/1 bet builder at bet365. £10 returns £340. £5 returns £170.
The bet works because the four selections are correlated in the same direction.
The bet builder format works particularly well when selections support each other rather than fighting for the same ball — and these four are reading from the same script. A scrappy, end-to-end relegation-fight performance from Spurs creates the conditions for goals at both ends, shots for Watkins, and a card for McGinn.
bet365’s Bet Builder is one of the better products on the UK market for this kind of multi-leg combination — depth across all four markets we’ve selected, fast settlement, full cash out available if you want to settle early during the match.
